Nope, but the fact still remains, that if you can generate electricity while driving down the road by using panels on the top of your car, why not?  That's called being efficient.  Doing two things at the same time....so if charging your car while you are parked while at work is considered efficient, then charging your car while driving should be as well.

I live in Arizona.  It's sunny about 99.9999% of the time.  As long as you don't park under a covered parking space or in a parking garage,  you car could be charging for FREE while at work, or at a park, or a mall, or a theater, baseball game...etc.

There are two big issues with electric cars, besides how do you dispose of the batteries once they are at the end of their lifetime (which to me is a big major issue that nobody has discussed yet or seems to care about).

How far can you go on a charge.  So far I have heard about 120 miles.  I work 126 miles from where I live.  I couldn't own one of these cars just because of that.

Next issue is how long it charges.  Most take 8 hours, some take longer depending on the connection.  Most garages are not setup for electric cars, so that's a big step.  Most parking lots don't have the chargers either.  That costs money.  Then how do you pay for it.

Right now Electric cars still run on fossil fuels.  Yep...the fossil fuels from a power generating plant.  It's sad but we are getting there.

The special LifeDrive architecture allows the BMW i8 to distribute its weight optimally across both axles. The electric motor in the front, the petrol engine at the rear – and, as the consolidating element, the so-called energy tunnel with built-in high-voltage batteries runs along the centre console through the car.

Sustainability from A to Z:
The electricity for the production of BMW i automobiles at the Leipzig plant comes exclusively from renewable energy sources. In addition, 100% of the energy required for manufacturing at the carbon-fibre plant in Moses Lake (USA) comes from locally generated hydropower.

25% renewable raw materials and recycled plastics were used in the interior of the BMW i3. A further 25% recycled plastics are used in the exterior.

95% of the materials used in a #BMWi3 can be reused.
