I'm excited to be organizing a panel on Leading Accessible Online Communities for Community Manager Appreciation Day (CMAD) on January 27. We still have room in the Hangout for more online CMs with practical experience to share on eliminating barriers for people with disabilities. And we're seeking a sign language interpreter for the Hangout as well. Let me know if you can help! Twitter hashtags #CMAD  and #a11y.

What practices, tools, and resources can an online community use to remove access barriers for people with disabilities? Learn about barriers and solutions from community managers with direct accessibility experience and with a variety of disabilities. We'll walk the talk with panelists on both the Hangout (which is not fully accessible) and Twitter, and volunteers helping to bridge communications between the two.

For more information, please check out:

This Hangout On Air is hosted by My Community Manager. The live video broadcast will begin soon.

Take a look at how President Obama's policies help a woman over her lifetime — and how Mitt Romney would change her story.

Fast Company article by +Allyson K about why it simply makes good sense to have more women on boards and in leadership at tech companies. I'm quoted (and believe me I could have gone on and on).

The info graphic Allyson's company prepared has lots of good data.

And a significant portion of that tiny percentage is women who have either inherited or bought (as in purchased the company) or founded it. I.e. its worse than that looks.

Growing up, one of my favorite books was "A Hole is to Dig". The author was Ruth Krauss, who had put together the text from children's definitions of words. But the real attraction of the book was Maurice Sendak's adorable and timeless illustrations.

From the book: "A dream is to look at the night and see things." Nobody did that better than Maurice Sendak. R.I.P.

I liked where the wild things are.
My favorite though was "A Wrinkle in Time", reportedly rejected 26 times before finally being published because it " had a female protagonist in a science fiction book," which at the time "wasn't done" according to [the author] L'Engle." (-Wikipedia)
The book's beautiful scientist mother was also an intolerable affront. In print continuously ever since originally published.
Not a kids book expert, but my impression is that there isn't anything new out there today with the kind of character formation impact that Dr. Suess, Sendak or L'Engle have.
