Wideband and narrow band O2 sensors
A narrow band O2 (oxygen sensor) only reads either rich or lean of Stoichiometric. Stoich is the ratio to completely combust the fuel. So a narrow band will only read rich or lean. Narrow Band will not tell you how rich or lean you are.
A wideband O2 is designed to read a board range of air fuel ratios. Some widebands will read from 10:1 up to 20:1. Knowing how far we are away for stoich we are able to calibrate an engine under full power. Full power calibration of the Air fuel mixture is critical to the performance and longevity of our engines.

Stock car are using plastic for just about everything. Not us. Plastic has it place, luckily we have ways to replace that plastic with strong and durable parts. Just look at the gear linkages as an example. They look trick also. Just ask us PH 31235373

Firmware updates. What is a firmware update? What is firmware? What does it do?
OK Firmware is the program that runs a electronic device. You ECU has firmware.
All modern ECUs can have the firmware updated.
A firmware update is updated software to run your ECU. The update will contain bug fixes along with support for new functions or new devices.
Often as soon as you change something in your setup you will need to update the firmware. Sure you can download it and do it yourself.
Get it wrong and you can brick you ecu.
So just be prepared to need your firmware updated whenever you make a change. I would say you are best to just update it rather than spend time chasing a fault which can often be cured by the update.

Something I have always wanted to test is electric water pumps. One of the next projects is going to be fitting some electric cooling fans and electric water pump to an Sr20 turbo. We will be using the current Haltech ECU fitted to the car to control the fans and pump. We were considering fitting a under driven pulley. Doing this just sounds like more fun.
