BUSINESS. Austin Burbridge is a journalist and entrepreneur. In 1997 he co-founded Cinema Minima for Movie Makers Worldwide. In the 1990s, he developed software, including a call-center application for a health maintenance organization; and managed a worldwide computer network for a manufacturer of oil-well equipment. From 1982–1991 he was Chairman and CEO of a manufacturer of industrial goods.
EDUCATION. At Brown, he concentrated in the Semiotics of Cinema, and Art. At the University of Chicago, he participated in graduate seminars in Art History. He learned community-based filmmaking and cinema vérité technique at Rice Media Center.
He speaks English and French; and is learning Portuguese.
PLEASURES. Austin’s hobby is street photography. He has worked as a commercial letterpress operator, an experience which confirmed him as an amateur of ephemera, and of fine printing, particularly intaglio. He collects stamps. A fan of polo, he can often be found attending chukkers at Will Rogers Polo Field.
A native Texan, he resides in Los Angeles, California.
