I am trying to say to you that the greatest treasure that a Christian can have, is a Holy Spirit-illuminated Word of God. It does not mean that we know everything that is here all at once, for we go on in this realm of vast fulnesses and we shall never exhaust them. But, we are not just studying it as dead matter - it is alive to us! Is it like that with you? ...Are you living in the old tables of stone, objective presentations of divine commandments? Or are you living in this dispensation where, "God has shined in your heart, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus"?

In the light of everything, taking into account all God's ways, God's methods, God's means, all the variety and all the strangeness of His dealings with me, what is God doing? What is God after? What does it all mean? And there filters through this answer. If the throne is really and truly in view, then what God is seeking to do above all other things is to bring about in me faithfulness, trustworthiness, and truth, reality, genuineness. God is seeking, therefore, to get rid of every unfaithful element, everything that will give way, everything that will let me down, everything that will give Satan an advantage because it will not hold out for God; to get rid of everything upon which Satan could find a vantage ground when he comes to offer me something else, some other kingdom, to entice away from the real for the apparent; from the eternal, heavenly and spiritual, for something which looks a very real thing, but is a glorious bubble. And that is what God is seeking to do in you and in me; if I see the meaning of His activities at all rightly, that is what He is after. Tremendous issues are bound up with our experiences.

Long-drawn-out enforced inaction is an awful experience for our souls. It is starvation of our souls, for these souls of ours find so much gratification in doing. There is no appeal to us naturally, no appeal whatever along the line of it being more important to be than to do. How many of you respond to that? Naturally, none of us. I do not, naturally, "Oh, that is a melancholy philosophy of life! Let me be doing something and I will be happy, I will find delight in being alive, if only I can be doing!" That is one of the snares of the work of the Lord. We very soon get on to a soul level where what we think is the joy of the Lord is really gratification in being always able to be doing something which we think is worthwhile.

There will be no more messages added to the website until possibly the New Year. We are taking a break and travelling, then we are wanting to spend some time catching up on some housekeeping issues on the website before adding more articles and chapters again. The Daily Open Windows messages will continue to be sent out to email list subscribers every day as usual.

It is those who, most conscious of their own weakness, exercise the greatest faith in the Lord as their strength, who open a way for the Lord to make the greatest measure of that strength manifest in them. The hindrance to the Lord's strength in us is our own strength, so often. The way for His strength is our weakness. So the apostle said that he would glory in weaknesses that the power of Christ might rest upon him, might encamp upon him.

The serpent is hissing his challenge out of this awful thing where death reigns because of sin. This is no exaggerated suggestion as some well understand. And the Lord is in it. He has to allow all those who shall go through with Him into Victory over death and the grave to be thus arrested. It is that they might take the next MIGHTY step of faith, which is not theirs but HIS: Paradox of our spiritual speech! The halt is necessary for further revelation, that we might know "the energy of the strength of HIS might."

Many of the saints of God are being assailed by "fear" in these days. To some Satan has even invested the "Coming of the Lord" with terrors of the night. And we are reminded of how He came to His own in the tempest, walking upon the sea, and they were affrighted. And He had need to say, "Fear not. It is I!" So it would seem it is His own voice that must re-assure His saints in the last troubled days - "It is I." The Mighty God? Yes. But also our Prince of Peace: whose blood has quenched all the violence of fire, and silences every accusation and menace of the adversary.
