No idea if I'm going to get any response on this at all, but among those of you reading who are d20 / D&D 3.x veterans, did you ever play D&D with options from the 3.x Unearthed Arcana book? I pulled it down off my shelf last week and I've been just flipping through it at random, and I've found that there are a lot of things in it I would like to lump into a game. I'd like to hear stories of how well the variants worked.

I have to ask, but I'm doing it here so as not to shit up other people's streams:

Why is Joss Whedon teflon-coated? Why have we forgotten that he was accused of abuse and infidelity? Why have we forgotten the evidence that he is not the feminist he claims to be? Why has everything that was revealed about him that cracked his facade been swept under the rug?

I am praying that someone familiar with Conan Exiles turns its world map into a hexmap, because it would make a killer sandbox setting for tabletop.

This comic offers a wonderful examination of how job applications are discriminatory, but it indirectly also does a wonderful job of illustrating exactly why applying for a job sets off anxiety so much (part of the discrimination). If you have anxiety, you know what I'm talking about. If you don't, please read the comic and learn about all the little things that can go horribly, horribly wrong.

I need a break from the world. Well, mostly from the people in the world. Most of them suck, and most of the ones who don't suck are still bludgeoning my mental health with their inability to be happy about anything these days. Yes, there's a lot wrong with the world, can we please stop bitching about things that aren't actually wrong with it? Maybe take that energy and put it toward fixing the things that are wrong?

I woke up a while ago with a hell of a blood sugar scare -- soaked in cold sweat, unable to think straight or stand up well -- and even though that's been handled I'm lonely and a little scared. Is anyone awake tonight? Let's talk about stuff. RPGs. Conan Exiles. That kind of thing.

I picked up Conan Exiles about a week ago and have been loving the absolute heck out of it. My progress has been slow, mostly because I am cautious and because I'm playing on my own with no real knowledge of what I should be pursuing, but I'm having so much fun just living in the game's world that I'm not really bothered by that.

I have the ability to make medium armor and iron weapons and tools. I'm fairly competent with combat (especially with daggers). I know where to find iron and coal, and I've got an island in the big river valley as my little homestead. I'm still exploring the crafting, but I haven't done any building outside my little box house yet, even though I have the Journeyman Mason capability. Heck, I just created an actual bed for the first time tonight.

I'm not exactly comfortable with the thrall system. I know it's part of the world, but the idea of slavery really rankles me. Also, given that my house is on an island, I can't get thralls to it anyway. I'm fine with that for now.

I would like to start playing with other people, probably in co-op. I'm not a big fan of PVP because it invites trolls. Having learned the basics I could probably get back to where I am (level 24) quickly.

+Jenn Thorson I checked with my library, and the purchase order for your books has gone through! Might be a bit before the books arrive, but it's happening!

I have a question for you. I live in Athens County, Ohio, which is about a 3/3.5 hour drive from the Burgh area given vagueries of traffic. Would you be interested in coming down this way to perhaps do a reading at the library or some such?

Some thoughts.

Death does not excuse a person from genuine criticism. That said, trolls taking advantage of someone's death, even that of a controversial figure, are the worst sort of human refuse.

I don't have to like the thing you like. I am allowed to expressly state that I dislike the thing you like. I won't tell you to shut up about the thing you like, and you don't get to be offended that I talk about not liking the thing you like.

That summit was never going to happen. It was a game of chicken between a pair of insecure man-boy tyrants to see who could last the longest without admitting they were too scared to actually meet. The orange one flinched first. And there's no Nobel Participation Prize.
