Someone had asked me, "How come you don't have a list of recipes on your blog so people could easily find them?". Great question! Well now, I've made two new changes on the blog so it's more user friendly for you. Here's my announcement:
I’ve made two important changes on my blog. One, I updated the page, “Astig Vegan Recipes”  which now features a menu list of my recipes.  The recipes are neatly organized by courses: Appetizers, Entrees, Breads, Snacks, and Dessert. I’ll keep adding to this list as I feature new recipes. With the recipe list, you don’t have to feel lost searching for …

Top Vegan Meat Alternatives to watch out for
I don’t usually cook with mock meats but that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy having them in my meal. I see mock meats as great convenient food when I’m on the go or when I’m eating out at vegan restaurants. Below is my list of top vegan meats I found at Expo West, a natural and …

Look ma, I'm on TV! Vegan Filipino Food featured on Adobo Nation.
I’m still pinching myself. Astig Vegan has made it on television! Last Thursday I was on the television cable station, The Filipino Channel, to feature my vegan Filipino dishes.   The show is called “Adobo Nation“, a magazine television show that features food, entertainment, fashion, and other hot topics in the Filipino American community.   The …

Tomorrow is #ChineseNewYear and what better way to celebrate it than making Chinese dumplings (Astig Vegan style) http://www.astigvegan.com/vegan-adobo-dumplings-for-the-chinese-new-year/
For the longest time, I thought making Chinese dumplings requires a special skill only dumpling masters have a talent for. I would have skipped making dumplings any other time but the upcoming holiday, Chinese New Year, has inspired me to finally give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised to find out I could make dumplings at the comfort of …

Sharing my recipe for Suman Moron, no not that kind of moron ;)  It's twisted chewy rice cake. Perfect for Valentines Day, whether you love the holiday or hate it.
The name itself is a conversation starter. After all, it sounds like you’re referring to “moron” as in “idiot” in the English language. Perhaps you could make it a clever way to break the ice on a date and have a good chuckle. Or to spite Valentines Day when it is not your preferred holiday. After all, …

Fun sweet treats packed with superfood nutrients.
“Super foods” used to be so foreign to me.  Back then, I wouldn’t even touch hemp seeds, maca root powder, chia seeds, and the like with a ten-foot pole. I was sticker shock by the price! They’re usually double if not triple the price compared to other vegetables and fruits in season. I just didn’t understand what was …

New vegan snacks to look out for, plus my list of the most intriguing finds at Expo West: http://www.astigvegan.com/top-vegan-snacks-and-the-most-intriguing-at-expo-west-2015/
Out of all the food categories at Expo West, I’d say snacks reigned supreme. Everywhere I looked, I spotted a snacks company handing out samples. The demand must be high for natural and organic snacks. Personally, I’m not a fan of processed food but if I need a ready-made snack, I would go for the natural, organic, and …

Reporting back the best vegan cheeses I found at the #ExpoWest  2015 Have you tried any of these products?
Before going to Expo West, I had promised myself I was only going there to network and find companies to collaborate with. I told myself, I will NOT get distracted nor post about vegan products that were not related to my theme, vegan Filipino recipes. But after three days of exploring the expo, I realized I …

About the Book. I look forward to Natural Products Expo year round and spend months planning for it. I anticipate it like a child does Christmas Eve (seriously). The four days on the show floor are magical, and I'm not alone in these feelings. There are 13 other contributors to this ebook who ...

How to get that perfect crispy texture when making your kale chips:
I had always been unlucky with making kale chips; they were either soft and chewy or burnt and bitter. I could skip the hassle and just buy a package of kale chips at the store but the ones at the store are not as crunchy and crispy as I wanted them to be. Plus, I was convinced I …

Vegan AND Authentic? The Mexican food offerings at Flacos Restaurant in Berkeley. PHOTOS & REVIEW:
Flacos is a quaint vegan Mexican restaurant in Berkeley. I’d like to believe it has a mission similar to Astig Vegan’s: to pay homage to a culture by veganizing its cuisine while preserving its authenticity. I met up with my friend Clare to have lunch with her and to catch up while she’s visiting the Bay Area. At the …

Proving Filipino food could be vegan, healthy, & delicious without losing its soul. Astig = unique, gutsy. Vegan = cruelty free lifestyle.
Introduction

My name is Richgail Enriquez also known as “RG”. I’m a cook and a purveyor of recipes of both traditionally vegan and veganized Filipino dishes.

All of my recipes could be found on this site, astigvegan.com

I grew up in Cavite, Philippines until I was 15 years old. As a kid, I would help my mom in the kitchen prepare and cook Filipino dishes for the family. Years later, My family and I moved to San Francisco Bay Area.

My journey to veganism started more than six years ago. I started for health reasons but eventually led to ethical and environmental reasons as well. Luckily, my family and friends fully supported my decision.

Although I totally avoided animal products, I did not want to give up on Filipino Cuisine. Undeterred, I pursued to delve deeper in learning Filipino food as well as sharing my discoveries along the way.

One of these amazing discoveries was that it is possible to achieve delicious, healthy, and vegan Filipino food without losing its soul.

My passion for vegan Filipino cooking and sharing my recipes led me to blogging and eventually a cooking show on YouTube, “Astig Vegan Cooking” on youtube.com/RCEstudios
