What is minty fresh, is great for your skin and comes from a goat? Mint soap made with goats milk of course! Being the crafters that we are here at Aspen Ridge today we made silky smooth Mint Leaf Soap. Bobbie is very happy with her rendition of Olive Oil soap instead of goats milk. She just had to be the black sheep of the group… or should we say black goat.

The date is February 14, 1929 10:15 am, Chicago. Better known as The St. Valentine’s Day Massacre. Seven members of the notorious North Side gang have been found with their light extinguished at the Lincoln Park garage. The culprits are nowhere to be seen but everyone suspects the infamous Purple Gang run by the ruthless Alfred “Scarface” Capone! One man, Frank Gusenberg, is breathing his last breath when officers arrive on the scene. He tells the officers with his final gasp of air that the murder weapons have been stashed at the “Lucy Cue Billiards Club”. Our residents mission was to go into the Lucky Cue and find the Thompson Submachine gun hidden there in under an hour and bring these criminals to justice! Our residents brains moved with the agility of Cambridge professors in this month's “Escape at the Ridge” game. There’s no fooling these super sleuths!

Lizards and Skinks and King Snakes O’ My! We had quite the troop of visitors at the Ridge thanks to The Reptile Zone. The wrangler of all that is slithery, Jeff, brought nearly twenty snakes, lizards and all things slimy to show just how gentile these creatures are. Bobby saw their docile demeanor petting a Gecko perched on top of Jeff’s assistance’s head and Gloria got up close and personal with a Corn Snake while Charlie and Geoff played dead with a Python!

It's cold! I hope they're wearing wet suits! Jim watched in disbelief as our very own Life Enrichment Assistant, Kelly, ran into the freezing cold waters of the Deschutes River, for a good cause, during the Annual 2018 Polar Plunge. Jim said he'd go in, but they'd have to warm the water up first!

It's #Valentinesday and what better way to celebrate than with "Hearts of Love?" Residents made paper hearts and are taking them around The Ridge to give handshakes, high fives, and hugs for signatures. Marge asked our Executive Director, Bryan, to be her first signature. The payment? A sturdy handshake!

It takes the steady hand of a master craftsman and the patience of a monk to brew some of the best beers around. Luckily for us we have all of that and more in our brew crew at Aspen Ridge Retirement. Dick and our other brewers are concocting our very tasty Oktoberfest Lager. We need some time for this tasty beverage to be ready for consumption by our Oktoberfest celebration later this year so we are getting ahead of the game. Can’t beat the good life!
