Ubuntu is the most popular.  I use Fedora but I administrate Red Hat Servers so I stick with a desktop that is closer to my servers.

We use social media for lead generation for both ourselves and our clients (We are a content marketing agency). It's all B2B.

We're able to generate some web traffic, some re-tweets, quite a few new followers, etc. However, the volume and quality of leads that are generated from Twitter, Pinterest, and Facebook are way WAY below what we generate with email marketing and inbound marketing. LinkedIn works better for us, particularly when we pay to promote our posts. Overall, there's very little in the way of qualified prospects coming from the social media efforts, but it's not zero, and frankly, the price is right! We can reach millions of targets for "free" (other than the time spent). We use Hootsuite, Klout, Tweetdeck, and Gaggle to manage our social media, and we narrow our posts to LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Slideshare, Pinterest, Google+, and just now starting Instagram (because we have a client with more visual promotion).
