Reposting an an item from a previous #DarwinDay . We've had new people sign up, so there are probably folks who haven't seen it. #NSFW

Happy Darwin Day!

I was thinking about all sorts of geeked-out ideas about what to do for Darwin Day, but last night I realized that maybe it's not data that's gonna reach people who aren't ready for it. But maybe wonder and humor can. So I unearthed this older Tim Minchin video--Tony the Fish, to illustrate how much fun the imagination and wonder about evolution can be.

And then he points out the absurdity of what happens when people don't wonder about Tony the Fish, but instead...well...you'll see.

Not safe for all audiences. Includes cursing, and controversial thoughts :)

EDIT: everything is only blender (except for the postprod on the rendering made in PS) mostly dyntopo form the cube, between 1.5 and 2hrs

Comments and critiques most appreciated
Next (and last) subject will be a (self?)portrait...

Just completed our last project, a trailer for Gates of Horizon (an #indiegame  by +Hex Keep). I thought I might share some stills I'm particularly proud of.. All the project was made in blender/afterFx and due to budget/time constraints in most cases cycles was out of question. I've spent some time on few fluid sim and some particle systems but most of the blender-related work was modeling and setting up the scene (which is to say that a lot of things were faked in compositing :)

General Discussion  -

So this is a particle/plugin(?) related question: I'm trying to find a way to fade out particles based on individual life (i.e. not having them popping in and out of existence at once).
I'm free to choose the rendering engine and I tried both: the Internal with the ATOM Reticular plugin and Cycles using the particle info node.. nothing really works:
Reticular just stops working every now and then (even on older builds) and the particleInfo node has other issues (namely when older particles are in front of newer the old one would mask the newer until it exists and then suddenly disappear revealing the one behind)

so, if you're still with me after all this: any idea?   :)

EDIT: I'm going to crosspost on blenderArtists should I get a solution I'll crosspost that as well

My final update for #sculptjanuary  the topic this time was a self portrait, so here's me from a reference of few years ago (after sculpting this I was made aware of the incredible work of Messerschmidt who you should absolutely study if interested in sculpting, imo)
