Light-sensitive cameras on the #GalaxyS6 and #GalaxyS6edge

The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge come with optimized hardware and software for light-sensitive cameras that can give you higher quality images even in low light. 

Rear camera

When it comes to choosing the best smartphone camera to capture everyday photos, the ability to take clear images in low light is a key factor. The next generation of image-processing chips and algorithms on the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge speeds up processing times for enhanced image quality in low light.

In places with plenty of light, you can take clear images with just a short exposure to the sensor. On the other hand, longer exposures are required for low-light conditions, which results in a greater chance of hand shaking while taking photos and videos. The Galaxy S6 and S6 edge compensate for that in the rear camera with Smart Optical Image Stabilization, a combination of hardware and software processing that result in clearer photos in low light.

The rear camera also has a larger aperture size of f1.9 that lets the sensor take in 34% more light compared to the Galaxy S5. This means that the camera can take higher quality photos and videos in low light even with the same number of megapixels. A larger aperture also means a shallower depth of field so that you can take better out-of-focus shots. 

With auto real-time HDR, you can get more light in your photos and videos by enhancing shadow and highlight regions at the same time. This means that you can see more without having to deal with shadow noise. You can also check the results in real time on the preview screen, making it easier to determine if an image is good enough to keep or not. This also takes away any discrepancies between what’s seen on screen and what ends up in the Gallery. The Galaxy S6 and the S6 edge also come with a new HDR Auto mode, which activates HDR right away to optimize the light for various shooting conditions. 

Front camera

As selfies continue to be popular, it’s important to get high quality images with the front camera in a variety of shooting conditions. The front camera on the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge fits a combination of 5 megapixels and a larger sensor in the same camera module space. Combined with a larger aperture size of f1.9 to let in more light, you get brighter selfies in low light conditions. You also get real-time HDR in the front camera for the first time to let you take clear selfies even in backlit scenes. Videos taken with the front camera also perform better in low light with Digital Image Stabilization to reduce camera shake and blurriness.
