Tomorrow (April 2nd) we will be demonstrating a bunch of the tools we've developed on an MIT webinar call, but today (April 1st) we unveil them first to you, our friends. Also, we need to practice showing and talking about these things, so we're hoping you'll cut us some slack if there's glitches in the demo process.

So if you've been wondering when you'll get to see some of the stuff we've been building (Eric and I around MetaCurrency work), here's your chance. Warning: Do NOT expect a full-blown currency system, Ceptr is the underlying tools that make those kinds of things possible in ways currently impossible. DO expect to see:  semantic trees, fractal receptors, semtrex as a general semantic pattern matching system, a preview of our distributed network technology, followed by Q&A and discussion.
This Hangout On Air is hosted by Arthur Brock. The live video broadcast will begin soon.

+Eric Harris-Braun - In this and the previous version, you mentioned "distributed byzantine fault tolerance". In previous conversations, you did not seem to like blockchains much, and did not seem to be using paxos variants. What protocol are you using? Or, more doc please? Or did I misunderstand? And thanks again....

Emerging Leader Labs Applications OPEN for Summer Session 2014!
"Part education (except you don't pay tuition), part job (except you work for yourself), and part social enterprise incubator (except our focus is on "social impact" first and "enterprise" later), the Labs are designed to nourish our wild spirits and the crazy projects that just might make the difference we need [in the world.]"
http://emergingleaderlabs.org/

The program is taking applications for two 2014 sessions. One in August/September in Chatham, NY and one in October/November in Asheville, NC.
Apply here: http://emergingleaderlabs.org/Apply_to_Participate

I participated in the ELL summer session last year (2013).  It was a wonderful experience. I was introduced to many enlightening and inspirational ideas/people. I would expect this session to be just as valuable.... The program serves as an abundant learning resource for everyone involved, facilitators and participants alike.

The program's focus areas are:
Leadership: Learn to collaborate and work as a team as well as empower teams to fulfill projects and produce outrageous results.
Projects: Develop implementable projects that produce a positive impact on the local environment or community.
Service: Invest some time and energy in service projects in the local community that is supporting us.
Coaching: Throughout the program, each participant will have a coach to support them in their personal and project development.

Some complimentary resources for all those interested:
- A really great video that showcases ELL, which was created during the inaugural program, the "Seed Project" (Summer 2012):

In case you're wondering whether the type of learning that happens at an Agile Learning Center is supportive of future professional success, it might be the only kind of schooling that is providing the kind of learning that the youth of today will need for the world they're facing.

Excerpt: “Capable people are those who: know how to learn; are creative; have a high degree of self-efficacy; can apply competencies in novel as well as familiar situations; and can work well with others. In comparison with competencies which consist of knowledge and skills, capability is a holistic attribute.”

Great synthesis. I'm looking forward to the next installment, Sahana.
Pedagogy had always established an unequal relation between the teacher and the taught. Andragogy stepped in to rectify this and foster awareness about how adults learned. However, the premise was that there was someone doing...

This all feels very connected the work I've been doing with MetaCurrency Project, Emerging Leader Labs and Agile Learning. Building the next economy/evolution/humanity.

The Core Nexus
----------------------

I've been putting together a document called "Core Nexus" recently, which pulls together the best practices I know of from several systems, including +Shereef Bishay's Better Means ( http://bettermeans.com/front/index.html ), Jim and Michele McCarthy's Core Protocols ( http://liveingreatness.com/ ), and more.

Collaborate: fork, diff, merge
--------------------------------------

OK, a bit of context here.  I wrote a post recently asking "What if we checked the commons into GitHub?" ( http://www.harlantwood.net/pub/What_if_We_Checked_the_Commons_into_Github/index.html )

So naturally, I am authoring this "Core Nexus" document in Github,  as I believe it to be a prime candidate for remixing -- ie we need luminous cores, for all our fractal collaboration groups and organizations, and we want gather, curate, and remix each others' collections of best practices.

You can see the rendered document on Github here: https://github.com/harlantwood/The_Project/blob/master/Core_Nexus.markdown

Here is what the markdown source that generates the document looks like: https://raw.github.com/harlantwood/The_Project/master/Core_Nexus.markdown

If you want to try editing / remixing, I highly recommend prose.io, which connects directly to your github account (which is free, dead simple signup in 15 seconds).

To test this concept (please do!):
1. create a github account
2. go here https://github.com/harlantwood/The_Project/blob/master/Core_Nexus.markdown and click the Edit button.

This will fork the repository for you, and let you change it as you wish.  As an example, here are the additions that +Glistening Deepwater made in her fork: https://github.com/Glisten/The_Project/compare/4f7957a...66d70f6

Collaboratory Now
-------------------------

I am personally getting pretty fed up with all of our greatness leaking out in dribbles across hundreds of facebook threads that are subsequently unfindable unless you look in +Zaq Mosher's  google docs ( https://docs.google.com/folder/d/0B5PC4hPnRiAYWUpkQmRkOEUwN1k/edit?pli=1 ) <sad face>.   I also have major concerns about the ownership of the IP generated in FB. My ideal would be to generate material in a "collaboratory" elsewhere (I vote for github or better to start), and cross-post content or links to FB / G+ / T / statusnet / etc.

I'd be happy to do a demo call, where we try the github + prose.io toolchain. We could do the call on G+, and be forking each other's systems (oh my) during the call, giving tech support as needed, etc.  Want to play?

We've got a number of versions of Gameshifting boards. We've been customizing them to the group/setting. But the general documentation about Gameshifting is here: http://EmergingLeaderLabs.org/Gameshifting_Overview

Applications for Summer 2014 in Chatham, NY are open (starting in August).

Also, for Fall in Asheville, NC (starting in October).

Know any visionaries who could use a boost on their projects?

We're doing exciting things with creating learning spaces which empower children to get in the driver's seat of their own learning and lives. Help us share our model and expand our programs!

We all know it's time for this kind of change in education.
Share the Agile Learning Center model and support ALC programs at the Manhattan Free School.

Yep! I'll be getting in tonight. I'd love to visit with ELL for a bit tomorrow and Wednesday.

I'm coming from Asheville where I just visited Black Mountain SOLE and participated in their beta which was great! So great, in fact, that I'm headed back there after this road trip. :)

Would love to tell you more about that as well as pick you brain on currency stuff. Really looking forward to meeting you!

Dean & Colleen, I'm pretty sure there's only one Emerging Leaders Lab so far. We hope there will be others soon. However, we are about to run a session this summer and are still accepting applicants for that one.

Introduction
Building currency tools for the New Economy so we can have the freedom and choice involved in an "Open Source" Economy. This demands:
  • Open Transport - An open protocol and network for transactions within and between currencies
  • Open Rules - Transparency, versioning and forking for the rules, fees, structures and processes which define the currency
  • Open Data - Distributed data engine with tamper-proof digitally-signed transaction chains. You own your own data and can reliably and authoritatively represent your account standing within any currency.
