Islay wildlife and farm life:
It almost looks like they’re having a chat, two sheep and a Chough spotted in the machair at Ardnave. Choughs have a stronghold on Islay, in particular at Ardnave and Kilchoman.

Ouch, that's rather scathing....
Exiting a market of a half-billion people to go global makes no sense.

The thing is that she's reached the top job in her line of business! And the game in that job is how long you last, and if you're lucky, what you leave as a legacy. So from her point of view, she's winning. No legacy but she's last half a year with no election, working for the project she didn't fight for. I mean, define luck! 😂

Very interesting read, something Gove, Johnson, May and in particular Farage probably don't really understand yet, being stuck in some kind of old-fashioned "making Britain great again" thinking with people in manufacturing lines.
Manufacturing is no longer about the production line

A beetle on Islay I could use some help with identifying
I spotted this beetle on the shore of Loch Drolsay during a walk in June 2015. I first thought it is a Common Black Ground Beetle, but then I understand they have grooves on their wings/wing covers…

Hold on, so he's going to do a weekly show on LBC, now he's also going to work for Fox News. So when is going to do his work as MEP, the job he got himself elected for, the job he expects the British taxpayer to pay him for? I think his MEP salary should be stopped immediately, as he is quite obviously incapable of fulfilling his mandate. I don't see why I should pay him with my taxes (yes, I pay a significant amount of taxes in the UK even though I hardly get any say what they are being spent on....)
The former UKIP leader will contribute to Fox News' main channel and business network.

So now The Donald is POTUS. Theresa May and her merry band of Brexiteers Johnson, Davis etc believe they can get a good and "fair" trade deal with the USA. I wonder if they have read what it says in The Donald's program:

"[..]and making certain that any new trade deals are in the interests of American workers.[..] President Trump will ensure that on his watch, trade policies will be implemented by and for the people, and will put America first[..]"

Anyone thinking a trade deal with the US will make it easy for UK companies to export to the US is seriously deluded. The Donald only knows Winners and Losers. And he will make sure the US are the winners and any trade partner will be the loser. That includes the UK, despite all that "special relationship" nonsense.

To those ***** among them who voted Leave (yes, apparently there were quite a few who indeed voted leave) I'd simply say, serves them right. For the others I'm sure Gove, Johnson, Farage and their mates will gladly donate their huge newspaper column fees (£150k/pa for 8hrs/week apparently....), their MEP salaries for which they don't turn up and more. Not to forget the £350M the NHS would get....

+Olivier Magere the thing is, as implied with the description "expat", they see themselves to be different to the "immigrants" in the UK. Even the UK press will hardly ever write of "British migrants/immigrants", only of "British expats". Even though technically they are all "immigrants from the UK" in the various countries". Same as all the "immigrants to the UK" are technically "Polish expats", "German expats", "Spanish expats" etc pp.
Language and its use can be very revealing.

Two Islay summer visitors
I like Swallows, I think they are such elegant flyers. If only they weren’t so difficult to photograph, especially in flight. This shot is the only decent one from a large number of attempts …

Ian Dunt's book is on my reading list, adding this analysis of the Theresa May speech about her Brexit strategy (which I've only scanned so far) to it. Looks like interesting reading.
Theresa May is about to play chicken with the EU. It is a game she is likely to lose.

I blog about the Isle of Islay, Scotland, and live in Aldermaston Wharf, West Berkshire
Introduction
Born in Bremen, Germany, went to university in Oldenburg, Germany. Then had enough of Germany and moved to the UK (after a year in the US while at uni). At some point visited Islay in Scotland which I now blog about. Even though I currently live in Aldermaston Wharf in West Berkshire (which is in England).
