Dutch record label Armada Music doesn’t really need an introduction. But to be sure you know where Armada comes from and where this diverse and steady growing record company is heading for in the future, here’s a few facts that deserve your attention.
Armada was founded back in 2003 by Armin van Buuren, Maykel Piron and David Lewis, of which the first 2 letters of their names form nothing less than ‘Armada’. The company celebrates its eighth anniversary in 2011 and has brought a range of quality releases over the past years, which resulted in the ‘Best Global Dance Label’ title three years in a row, as awarded by the International Dance Music Awards of 2009, 2010 and 2011. The Amsterdam-based label works with and manages some of the biggest names in dance music industry, like Markus Schulz, StoneBridge, M.I.K.E., Aly & Fila, Dash Berlin, Roger Shah, Max Graham, Andy Moor, Mischa Daniels, Josh Gabriel and of course Armin himself. Working together with the Armada team, these artists and their individual labels – Coldharbour Recordings, Perfecto Records, Ava Recordings, Pilot 6, Electronic Elements, Armind, Subculture and A State Of Trance are just a selection of the 23 sub labels now residing under Armada – have published more than 2600 releases to the global music market already. But it doesn’t stop there.
Armada also hosts successful events worldwide, therewith entering the areas of management and events. Its yearly events in Ibiza manage to attract thousands of party lovers to the white beaches, sunsets and of course: the best DJ’s Armada provides them.
Ultimately Managing Director and co-owner Maykel Piron puts it best: “It’s mainly important to be able to release high quality dance music. That basically means we should be able to release every genre of track. No matter if it’s trance or house; if we love it, we have the opportunity to release it.”
