Google+ Resources | Complete Collection

Hello Everyone!

I humbly present the complete set of articles I wrote with the help of our diverse and enthusiastic community here to enhance our Google+ Experience:

1. The Starter Pack - bit.ly/gpstarter
Guidelines to help you join g+ at a run by giving you a quick and meaningful overview of everything you need to know after your first log-in. In here you will also find a list of people that you can follow to bring your Stream to life.

2. The Circles: Dividing, Nesting and Prioritizing - bit.ly/gpcircles
The most important feature of g+ are its circles. If properly configured they can mirror your real lives in terms of sharing and much more.

3. The Early Adopter's Guide - bit.ly/gp_early
These tips can help you become a true Google+ Early Adopter regardless of how popular you are on the network.

4. The Etiquettes - bit.ly/gp_etiquettes
Being part of such a diverse and rapidly growing community raises the question of general netiquettes. This article seeks to discuss and list suggestions that can make us a community built on tolerance and understanding.

5. The Average Facebook User and Google+ - bit.ly/gb_fb
The bulk of the internet is not composed of power users and early adopters. So what is g+ for the masses?

6. How to Structure and Format your lengthy posts - bit.ly/gp_template
Improve the readability of your posts by applying rich text formatting to them. Learn how to make your articles simpler and more attractive for the readers.

7. How to use your Post as a Poll - bit.ly/gp_poll
Often time you would like to ask your readers questions with specific answers. At the moment there is no polling feature in google plus but using this clever work-around you can achieve an excellent compromise.

***************************************
The guides look to enhance your Google+ experience while at the same time allowing you to explore the true potential locked behind this gorgeous set of features and UI.

It is also important to note that these articles are not binding rules and the methods listed in them are not the only way of using Google+. In fact, the real beauty of this network lies in its multi-functional use. Therefore, I strongly encourage all of you to take read them with a grain of salt and apply them as you deem relevant to your needs.

I am also delighted to announce that the articles are now being translated to different languages to cater to our global e-society. Some translations are already complete and can be found at the bottom of each article. This could not have been made possible without the highly enthusiastic and immensely helpful group of translators that volunteered to translate each and every article - for that I am eternally grateful to them.
This will remain a work-in-progress and hence more translations would be required. If you are interested in contributing to the translations please read this post: http://bit.ly/gp_trans.

***************************************
Finally, I would like to thank all the people that have helped spread these articles to the masses during their early stages and the readers for providing thoughtful feedback to make them better. However, there is always room for improvement and so I am looking forward to more insightful comments across the network.

Please feel free to spread the word. You can publish these articles elsewhere on the internet to your blogs, websites, etc. You can also use them as a source of ideas for your own publications/projects related to g+. I do not wish to claim credit for this work. I only wish for it to help people both inside and outside Google+.

Thank you for reading through.

cheers,
+Ahmed Zeeshan

It is a very helpful thing.

Google image search is like a reverse lookup phone directory. Ever find an image and wonder where it came from? Just drag and drop a photo into the Google image search input box and Google will find similar images, and pages / info about the image. It even makes a "best guess" at the "author" of the image. I found this image posted to someone's Tumblr a few days ago. It had no credit/info on it, and I had no idea where it came from. I dragged it into the Google image search input box, and I immediately found the photographer and more photos from the same shoot: Phoebe Rudomino. (http://phoeberudomino.com) (For those of you who read my snorkeling post, you can probably guess how I happened across this image.)

Anyway, this is an incredibly useful tool. I've been testing it out for the last hour or so.

The applications are endless.

1) Identify an interesting place, historical landmark, famous building, statue or piece of art.
2) Identify the photographer artist / creator of the image you drag into the search box.
3) Identify a person. Basically works like facial recognition, but better. It returns all kinds of results about the subject. It doesn't just match a person to a name. I've often seen images of celebrities on G+ and thought "who's that?" Drag the image into the box and Google can tell you.
4) Upload a photo you took, and see info on it & similar photos of the same place. Are you reading this?! I just dragged a photo from my desktop of a waterfall photo I took this afternoon -- a photo that I took on my camera -- and Google told me what waterfall it was, and showed me other people's photos of it. Pretty nifty. :-)

And this brings us to Google Goggles. Have you tried this thing!? Google Goggles is a visual search app for your phone. Just take a photo of something, and Google will do a search based on that photo. One of the "bonus" features is that it has translation. Standing on a street corner in Italy and can't read the sign? Just point your phone at it and snap -- instant translation appears. I had the pleasure of meeting one the founders of Google Goggles a few months ago. I was looking at his new technology so I hadn't tried Google Goggles yet. There's some amazing work going on in this field.

I think someday this technology will really make shopping easier. It'll be like everything has a UPC code built-in, whether its been tagged or cataloged by a human or not. It already does that for books. Snap a photo of a book and it'll bring up a listing of the book. But imagine if you could snap a photo of Kim Kardashian and you'll know what dress and shoes she's wearing and you'll be able to buy it with one click?

And as if all this weren't enough, do you see where this is going? When you're out walking around with your smartphone, you're going to be able to point your phone camera at anything and Google Goggles is going to be like the Google search box "type ahead" function, it'll start identifying objects in the camera field "Oak Tree. Blue Heron (bird). Clouds, The Empire State Building. Soup Plantation" etc. Just tap an item and you'll be doing a "search" of anything your camera sees. Fun stuff. :-) OK, shutting up now. As you can tell, I love it.

Tweets to Facebook? Good luck with that. Google Buzz thankfully gives you the ability to mute all tweets from any user. "Tweet dumpers" we called them. I can only presume that Facebook will have no choice but to institute the same kind of filter.

Thanks to +Jesse Stay for bringing it to my attention in Buzz.

Btw... here's one example of the comments in the article. Imagine having your Facebook stream filled up with crap like this:

"Earn Money with (redacted) Social Network Site Talk Sign Up Now!!!"
Twitter has added a 'Post Tweets to Facebook' button in the user profiles section that will allow you to quickly and easily link your Twitter account to your Facebook account. The button, ...
