Located in the historic Haslett Warehouse, the Argonaut's home is a grand building built in 1907 of exposed brick, Douglas Fir beams and so much seaside character you feel as though you can almost reach out and touch the past.Inspired by combining the Greek legend and the Gold Rush-era adventurers, it's one of those rare places in San Francisco that truly merits a term like iconic. Most of the rest truly merit the terms'touristy' and 'overpriced'. This boutique hotel is also a level 4-Diamond (4 star) service and amenities that provide an unforgettable and different taste to this destination experience. Couple that with a positively perfect location at San Francisco's most famous address perched on the edge of the Bay at Fisherman's Wharf, and it’s easy to see why the hotel is so coveted..Whether you dine at the Blue Mermaid Chowder House & Bar, or have a drink around the fire place or sample the wines featured at the nightly hosted wine reception you will be sure to enjoy the comfortable surroundings and friendly atmosphere. PS: This hotel is 'pet friendly'. Ratings out of 100 Position: 95 Noise levels: 85 Servicing of rooms: 90 Cleanliness: 90 Pool and rec. areas: ?? Value for dollar: 75 (comparison for the AUD$$) Overall Rating: 85 (very good)

We Stayed here in March 2015. When we arrived at the check in desk we were told we had been upgraded to a better room which was a lovely surprise. We then arrived in our room to find a complimentary bottle of wine and a few nibbles with a lovely note welcoming us to the hotel. The room we had was an inside room so there wasn't really a view of any sort but then the room itself was lovely and done the purpose it was there for - somewhere to sleep. In a place as great as San Francisco you wont need the view from your room as you will be out seeing the sights. The staff were extremely helpful and helped with booking excursions or tried to answer any questions you have. We very much enjoyed the complimentary wine hour between 5-6pm. Breakfast in the adjoining blue mermaid was also very good although could be a bit pricey for some. The Argonaut is in a very good location with Golden Gate bridge and Alcatraz in view. The cable car that takes you to Union Square and Lombard street is just round the corner from the hotel. There are also lots of different restaurants nearby that do very good food and drinks.

Staff was professional, polite and courteous. Rooms were clean and very nice. Location was great for the "Wharf",if you want quiet, ask for an inside room. Location was good for seeing the sights and walking to wherever. Would recommend it to anyone wanting to see San Fran.

The hotel is clean and comfortable with a fun nautical theme. The lobby is full of lively individuals and activities. The dining options are above average and the hotel staff is friendly. The biggest downside is the waterfront location, where you are constantly bombarded with tourists. On weekends, the parties and people can be heard into your room. For a local SF experience, this may not be the best option.

Amazing place to stay. They had free beer but no breakfast. Beds were comfortable and it was quiet. It was a great place to bring your family. It's close to all the action on Fisherman's Wharf.

I've actually stayed at this hotel several times and on one occasion, I stayed for 5 nights. I agree with some of the other comments about nothing being complimentary...not even one bottle of water when you arrive which would be a nice gesture considering the cost of the rooms. The other disappointment, of course, is the parking situation. You really have no choice but to use valet parking, which is 50 dollars a night. If you choose to park yourself and are lucky enough to find a spot close by you'll end up paying 40, so adding 10.00 to have them park for you is a 'no-brainer.' After noticing that there was no free water in the room, I went downstairs and asked if I could get a complimentary bottle of water. The gentlemen at the front desk said to take a water from the room and they would take it off of my bill. That didn't happen. And here is the most frustrating part of all. I paid 50.00 plus tax for valet parking and it took them 40 minutes to find my car! I came down in the morning at 7:20 am, gave them my ticket and at 8 am they finally found it. I was late getting to my appointment so I just got in my car and left. I recently called the hotel to see if they could reduce my parking rate simply for the inconvenience of it all and, of course, the manager is in a meeting. How convenient...

Gorgeously decorated and in a super convenient location. Fun fact from the national park ranger who does free waterfront tours every sat/sun morning - the whole building is actually part of the national park. Quite expensive though, especially given the complete lack of a view.

My husband and I just returned from our trip to SF. We actually left a day early because the hotel really felt like a prison despite the fact that we knew we wouldn't be refunded for that night since we booked through a 3rd party vendor. The lobby/hallways are dark and unless you pay top $$$ for a room with a view, and i mean top $$$, the other rooms are like prisons. We did book through a 3rd party and still paid over $300/night and our rooms felt like a jail cell. The hotel should be ashamed to charge anything over $150 for the rooms with no view. Our windows were right across the window of other rooms, we couldn't even open our shutters because we can see into our neighbors room. The service was even more disappointing. When we checked in the comforter cover had 3 stains on it, so when we headed out to dinner we asked the front desk to send someone to change the sheets. We got back to find a crumpled up comforter on the bed. We called for a manager to come see how our request was honored, she quickly apologized and offered a $40 credit and said she will send someone right away to make the bed. She doesn't understand why they left it all crumpled up like that, not even folded let alone made the bed. A few minutes later a young man showed up, apologized for perhaps misunderstanding the request. He then asked us if he should make the bed. I responded with yes please and changed the sheet that's dirty. He left to get the sheet and returned. When he started to remove the old sheets, he said that he will do the best he can but he doesn't know how to make beds really. I asked him what his position is at the hotel, he said he's maintenance. I asked him where housekeeping was and he said they leave at 5pm. Really a 4.5 star hotel doesn't have housekeeping after 5pm. After several minutes of him struggling to put the bed together i really felt bed because it's not his fault. The manager should have never sent him to make the bed she should have made it herself. I thanked him for trying and told him we'll take it from there. Overall this hotel is barely a 3 star hotel and we've stayed at our shares of 3-5 star hotels and absolutely experienced better. Don't let the free happy hour fool you, for the price and what you get i wouldn't recommend this hotel. The only good thing is location.

Response from the owner - a year ago
Hello, Mr. Latunde, I can see that this housekeeping situation was a comedy of errors. Wow - how embarrassing. I have reached out to the front desk and housekeeping managers to investigate this right away and ensure this kind of bizarre occurrence does not happen again. We normally receive top marks for cleanliness and definitely need to ensure everyone is maintaining good communication and attention to detail. I am so grateful for the information. Please feel free to contact me directly at any time. Best, Emily Assistant General Manager Argonaut Hotel
