I always thought this idea had potential.... glad someone is investigating it.
IBM's Watson, known for crushing the human competition on Jeopardy!, is now a sous-chef. It's spitting out novel ingredient combos for human chefs to cook, and hitting the road with sample dishes.

WHAT
Google and NASA are forming a joint research lab to look at quantum computing for things like facial recognition and understanding of disease. Their computer is from D-Wave Systems, which appears to be producing quantum computing results years earlier than many expected.

"Sometimes—after a nice full day, perhaps spent in the company of loved ones—one can forget that the world is a cold, uncaring place full of death and sadness. Thanks, Texas, the birdiest state in the entire country, for reminding me that this civilization we’ve built and work our fingers to the bone trying to perfect is as meaningless as a sand castle in the tide."
I drove over a bridge from Maryland into Virginia today and on the big “Welcome to Virginia” sign was an image of the state bird, the northern cardinal—with a yellow bill. I should have scoffed, but it hardly registered. Everyone knows that state birds are a big joke. There are...

"If a person can just 'walk' the trail on his computer, why would he want to walk it in person?"

If you're the kind of person who asks a question like that, I probably don't want to go hiking with you.

Loved the cool rustic vibe, reasonable pricing, bikes available for borrowing, and location right near the beach. Everything was clean and environmentally friendly. The restaurant, Pickled Fish, was probably overpriced, but pretty good overall (especially the crab mac 'n' cheese!) and had great views. I'd definitely stay here again if I go back to Long Beach!

Loved the low-key atmosphere and the open kitchen. The food was delicious and they clearly make an effort to use fresh local ingredients, which I appreciated. I think the menu changes frequently, but I had the wild boar cajun boudin which was great. Sampled some of the veggie burger which was good but probably overpriced, and the fries seemed overcooked (though that's a matter of taste).
