From the first contact to the final product, Matt was a pleasure to work with! Cannot say enough good things about this cooperation. I found Matt by coincidence just looking on the internet for custom frame builders. I almost decided to go with someone else, but a couple of emails and phone calls made me decide otherwise. Matt really lets you design the bike aesthetically and based on your measurements, the frame is built. What I like about the design is the fact that you can really see that this product is handbuilt, which to me is a good thing! I have not had a chance yet to take the bike out for a really good and long ride, but I'm sure it rides equally awesome as the way it looks. But I will definitely update later on with the exact details on the ride characteristics. The fact that Matt offers a 25 year warranty on the frame, really means he stands behind his work. Hopefully I will get a chance in the future to work with Matt again on another frame.

Matt was great to work with. He explained the process that he performed on my frame and executed it with great precision. I would highly recommend Matt's service to anyone in need of carbon frame repair.

When I fractured the top tube of my road bike, I was overwhelmed with what to do. People gave me all kind of suggestions, but after contacting Matt, I knew he was the man for the job! Not only was he super quick to respond to any questions I had, but he provided upfront advice! I had no idea how long a carbon repair would take, some people said 2 weeks, some said 4 if I shipped it out.... But Matt did it in less than a week!!! My frame is matte finished so he payed extra attention to detail as he laid the carbon to match my current frame. It looks AWESOME!!

I discovered Appleman Bicycles through a review of NAHBS in 2013. After doing some research I gave Matt a call to discuss what I was looking for in a gravel grinder. I wanted a bike designed for gravel events like the Dirty Kanza and Trans Iowa that was responsive and stiff yet offered comfort for all day riding. After a few discussions I was convinced an Appleman would be my next ride. The experience was top notch from top to bottom. Matt has the ability to listen to what you want and provide suggestions of his own based on his experience. The interview process combined with the fit sheet guarantee the customer gets a final product that exceeds their expectations. In addition, Matt's attention to small details separates himself from other manufacturers. I could not be happier with my Appleman gravel grinder.

Matt built for me exactly the road bike I wanted -- he studied my riding style by, among other things, riding some miles with me on my older bike before he designed the new frame -- and, as I asked, he designed the frame to maximize comfort for long distance riding rather than just speed. And, Matt tolerated cheerfully my request that he plunk a Brooks saddle -- I just like Brooks saddles -- onto his lightweight frame. Good science, good art, good guy...

I had a custom track frame built for me by Matt at Appleman Bicycles in summer 2011. Matt was very receptive to my desires and inputs - I am an experienced track rider (8 years racing the boards, with 13 elite state championships and 2 national championships) and have ridden several track bikes - so I had a pretty good idea of what would make a track bike GREAT for me. We worked together to come up with a geometry that would work and he chose a special tubeset to fulfill my desire for a very stiff, efficient, and fast bike. He was communicative through all parts of the design and build process and even hand-delivered my bike to the velodrome when it was ready! I've now ridden and raced the bike for two complete seasons at the National Sports Center Velodrome in Blaine, MN and have traveled with it to the Velo Sports Center in Carson, CA as well as the Chicago Velo Campus in south Chicago. It handles great and is everything I dreamed of in a track bike. I don't doubt that I'll keep this bike forever as my bike of choice for the boards. Matt has the ability to listen intently and deliver on exactly what his customers want. We've worked on a couple of projects since then, and he's always a joy to work with. Appleman Bikes are, without a doubt - a premium product; but they're worth absolutely every cent.
