I've enjoyed Haruki Murakami's books tremendously for years and _Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage_ is another surreal feast. It's a meditation on friendship that captures a lot of the pain and unease created by the endings of relationships.
The new novel—a book that sold more than a million copies the first week it went on sale in Japan—from the internationally acclaimed author, his first since IQ84

The end of winter has been weird here, with a lot of snow being shifted around. The parking lot at my workplace gained a mountain of snow that was summited by one brave coworker.

The Beyond Anthology is a comics project featuring 18 creators making speculative fiction with queer characters. Some of my favourites in the webcomic space are involved and I'm excited to be introduced to new artists.

"Beyond is an anthology of queer sci-fi and fantasy comics. Featuring 18 stories by 26 contributors, Beyond is a 250+ page, black and white, queer comic anthology, full of swashbuckling space pirates, dragon slayers, death-defying astronauts, and monster royalty. Each story celebrates and showcases unquestionably queer characters as they explore the galaxy, mix magic, have renegade adventures, and save the day!

The Beyond Anthology was born from a desire to see stories inspired by people like us (queer people with diverse genders and sexualities) slaying dragons, piloting spaceships, getting into trouble, and saving the day—without having to read for their queerness from between the lines. We wanted to see beautiful, heartwarming, and adventurous stories that reflect and celebrate the many facets of gender and sexuality, without having to worry that their queerness would cast them as a villain, a pariah, or turn them into a cautionary tale."
Sfé and Taneka is raising funds for The Beyond Anthology on Kickstarter! A queer Sci-Fi / Fantasy comic anthology

Halifax is covered by more snow than I've ever seen. This view of one large mound of snow is like many across the city.

The Vegan Zombie folks have another mouth-watering kale-based recipe that I'm excited to try.

The recipe is also at http://veganyackattack.com/2015/03/19/southern-kale-salad-with-smoky-ranch/ .

A reporter from a local paper visited my family's maple farm this week and interviewed my uncles about the delay in the start of the season this year.
DEAN, Halifax County — It’s time for a tap dance in maple syrup country. “I never heard tell of anybody doing a sap dance,” Gerry Lemmon, 53, said from inside the sugar shack on top of Blueberry Lane.

I have a soft spot for space art and these travel posters for destinations within our solar system really grabbed my eye.
Ron Guyatt started his Solar System travel posters project a few years ago with locations on Mars, and he has since branched out to create a master work highlighting the best our Solar System has to offer.

This week's episode of The Drabblecast features a story by Nalo Hopkinson that begins with familiar scene and then gets very weird. "Stay and shovel snow or go and see what lay next door to this world?" I think it would be an easy choice.
The shovel bit through the foamy snow on the top stair of my front porch, then stopped with a clang. I scraped away the snow to see what was beneath. Ice. Serve me right for not shoveling after the...

Ryan Estrada's Broken Telephone is a great collaboration with artists that is now being published as a webcomic. I read it in full as a Kickstarter backer and I can vouch for it being an inventive and fun experience.

"Welcome to Broken Telephone! Tune in every weekday for more of this crazy crime caper. In order to make it, I spent eight years traveling the world, researching law enforcement loopholes, as well as investigating (and occasionally committing) potential perfect crimes. I'm probably on every government watch-list there is for the bizarre Google-searches this book brought on.But this book would be nothing without my amazing artists. Each chapter is drawn by a completely different team of artists, to reflect the different points of view of each set of characters."

Halifax was hit with its worst storm of the winter today and I've been busy all day. The view of the parking lot might give a hint about why.
