Holy guacamole! All hail avocado, the super food hero!

Avocado is a nutrient all-star. It’s packed with omega-3 fatty acid, pantothenic acid, dietary fiber, vitamin K, copper, folate, vitamin B6, potassium, vitamin E, and vitamin C.

Our bodies love this rich, buttery fruit and here are a few reasons why:

Help absorption of other nutrients
With a high fat content, avocados will help you get all the fat-soluble vitamins in your food. Eating avocados with other vegetables can dramatically increase antioxidant absorption.
Help with Arthritis Pain
Avocados contain a mix of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory characteristics that can help with arthritis pain and reduce the risk of other disease and illness.
Help Lower Cholesterol & Boost Heart Health
Avocados are filled with monounsaturated fat (the good kind of fat) that can help lower cholesterol and boost heart health.
Can Promote Weight Loss
Avocados are loaded with fiber. Fiber makes you feel full faster and longer. Food with rich fiber content like avocados can promote weight loss and reduce blood sugar spikes.

These health benefits alone should have enough convincing power to include avocados in your diet. And just in case you need more convincing, here is a guacamole recipe that surely has tastier appeal.

Holy Guacamole!
• 2 ripe medium Hass avocados
• 1/2 small brown onion, finely chopped
• 1 small tomato, seeded and finely chopped
• 1 small jalapeño, seeded and finely chopped
• 1 medium clove of garlic, minced
• 1 teaspoon sea salt
• 2 tablespoons of finely chopped cilantro
• 1 lime juiced

Cut the avocados in half lengthwise around the pits and separate the halves. Stick the tip of a sharp knife in the avocado pit and twist the knife to loosen and pop out the pit. With a spoon, scoop out the flesh of the avocados into a bowl and add the lime juice, minced garlic and salt. With a fork, mash and mix the avocado mixture into a coarse, chunky consistency. Add the rest of the ingredients to the bowl and mix until well incorporated.
Serve with baked tortilla chips.

Happy avocado gobbling!

Love Mexican food but dreading what it does to your heart & waistline? Follow these tips and enjoy a heart-healthy Cinco de Mayo!

I love Cinco de Mayo! But if you need a reason to celebrate, just think margaritas, tacos, chips and salsa. Unfortunately, these favorite Mexican fiesta foods tend to be high in saturated fat because they’re cooked with lard and often topped with cheese.

Luckily, you can still partake in the festivities and enjoy a great Mexican meal without the guilt if you make a few sensible choices.

• Limit your fried tortilla chips intake to no more than 1 ounce of serving (depending on the size of the tortilla chips, 1 serving is about 8 chips)
• Order tomato-based sauces instead of cream or cheese sauces
• Opt for corn tortillas instead of flour
• Get black beans instead of refried beans
• Try grilled dishes instead of fried ones
• Get fish or chicken breast in lieu of beef or pork
• And most importantly don’t forget to order guacamole!

Yes, I said order the guacamole!

Avocados, the main ingredient in guacamole, are true super foods! They are nutrient-dense and contain nearly 20 vitamins and minerals. They are a great source of healthy fats that allow for better absorption of other plant based nutrients.

Happy Cinco de Mayo!

Hello friends! Smartphones tied to posture problems? Take a look at this video. True, timely and very important info. But ignore the silly rotational neck stretch the ortho suggests. Not a good thing for most people. Have a great week!

Hey guys, if you’ve been in a car accident (even a mild one) make sure you get a thorough chiropractic evaluation as soon as possible. I’ve seen too many new patients this month with injuries related to old car accidents. Spinal misalignment and soft tissue injuries can often be missed by general practitioners and even emergency rooms or dismissed as insignificant. But even a mild fender bender of just 15 miles an hour can cause significant degeneration over a short amount of time. The prognosis is much better with early chiropractic care. So don’t wait!

To all my basketball loving and playing friends and patients, don’t forget to watch Kobe Bryant’s final game tonight!  What an incredible career!  Even if you’re not a fan, you gotta give this guy his props. Unrivaled work ethic and focus with a ferocious will to win. He fought through so many injuries and often played in pain to give this great city 5 NBA titles and countless highlights! Pretty inspirational!
