In today's MumbaiMirror.com, showcasing a slice of the culinaryheritage from my paternal ancestral cuisine. Sasive is a very simple dish to make, but is packed with abundant flavours. A ground mixture of coconut, mustard seeds and green chilies are mixed into yogurt and seasoned with mustard seeds, curry leaves, dry red chilies and asafoetida. And the best part is that you can add any seasonal vegetable into it. Very healing, comforting and delicious.

In the May issue of FineDiningIndian.com, I talk about my life and career in food, how I started, the challenges faced and the trials and tribulations of this career path. I like to showcase India's rich Vedic heritage through my work and my focus has always been on pure vegetarian and sattvic food. There are lot of misconceptions surrounding sattvic food, which stems from Ayurveda, the ancient medical system of India, comprising the healing of the mind body and spirit. Altering the perception of Vedic and Sattvic food gives my work a greater sense of purpose and staying true to my culture and values while adopting the ways of a modern lifestyle has helped me a great deal in my culinary journey.

I talk about all this and more here. It's also humbling to be in the issue alongside legends like Gaggan and Cyrus Todiwala. Thank you @finediningindian for the feature. You can find the link to the interview here- https://issuu.com/cheffinediningindian/docs/finediningndian_food_magazine_-_may

Cakes make everyone happy! And I make it a point to make cakes for my loved ones as much as possible. This eggless golden yellow cake is one of my go to cake recipes and also happens to be one of the most popular recipes on my site. It is simple to make and has great taste and texture. People find it hard to believe it's egg free. I made this cake yesterday for a friends birthday and topped it up with chocolate ganache. If you have seen my instagram stories, you would have caught a glimpse.

Today is the appearance day of Lord Narasimha, one of the 10 incarnations or dashavataras of Lord Vishnu. The sacred Srimad Bhagavatam describes the glories and pastimes of the great devotee boy Prahlad (one would have not missed this story if he or she were brought up in a Hindu household), the demoniac activities of Hiranyakashipu and the mesmerising avatar or incarnation of the half lion half man form of Lord Narasimha who freed the earth and protected his devotees from all the vicious activities of the demon. I have always been besotted with this form of the Lord and today to celebrate his birth, which signifies the victory of good over evil, I fasted without water till dusk (the time of his appearance) and then savoured this feast that I had specially prepared for Lord Narasimha.

On the leaf plate is the raw mango kosambri (a lentil salad made with raw mango), tangy and spicy raw mango rice, mosaranna (rice with yogurt and tempered with spices), rava payasam (semolina keer), aam panna (cardamom infused raw mango and jaggery drink) and sheekarni or aamras (lightly sweetened mango pulp). Yes it was a raw and ripe mango predominant meal.. and why not? When mangoes are in full bloom.. isn't it?

Gud aur atte ka halwa or jaggery and wholewheat flour halwa, is one of the tastiest things you can make! I love to make, feed and eat this halwa. I will not hide the fact that this is loaded with calories, but you can easily burn it off with a nice brisk walk.
Nothing should come in the way of you relishing this rich and indulgent halwa!

Tip: According to Ayurveda, heavy food is best eaten before sunrise, since it is easier to digest.
