Janmashtami is never complete for me without making these laddus. Made with just 2 ingredients- peanuts and jaggery and spiced with cardamom, these laddus are super easy to make and taste divine. Make your Janmashtami special with these laddus.

And read all about how I celebrate Janmashtami and why it’s so special to me on India Food Network- https://indiafoodnetwork.in/food-stories/janmashtami-food-rituals/

I shot this peanut laddu platter way back in 2008, with my first digital SLR, the #canon40d. This makes me so nostalgic.

I have fond memories of eating this mouthwatering curry throughout my childhood. If you don’t have access to Bamboo shoots you can replace it with any other vegetable, but the taste of this bamboo shoot curry is unsurpassed in my book of food. This was published in yesterday’s Sunday Mirror. MumbaiMirror.com The Times of India

New post: Raw Mango Pickle

No indian meal is complete without pickles. Be it parathas from the north or simple yogurt rice from the south, it is pickles that add zing to a meal.

While it’s good to see the western world discovering the benefits of fermented foods, it’s also important to recognise that the age old system of medicine in India, Ayurveda recommended eating fermented foods like pickles to stimulate agni or the digestive fire required to digest food in its ancient texts thousands of years ago.
.
Pickles also stimulate certain digestive enzymes in our saliva which further enhances the taste and the digestion of food.
.
Make these pickles while raw mangoes are still in season and enjoy it throughout the year. For recipe click here

I shot this Mango Cheesecake picture and posted it on Divine Taste in 2009. This was one of the first vegetarian cheesecake recipes on the web made without gelatine and was on number one on Google for 6 years until Google changed its configuration.
.
This still happens to be one of the most popular recipes on my site, tried and tested by hundreds across the globe.
.
Mangoes are in season and if you want to make this, see the recipe on my site, link here- http://www.divinetaste.com/archives/mango-cheesecake/

New post alert!

I have always loved dal, thanks to my mother who not only cooked delicious dals for us but also made sure that dal was always there for our main meals.

When you eat dal with rice, the glycemic index is reduced making it great for diabetics. The dal rice or dal roti combination is also a good source of complete proteins, making it an ideal choice for growing children as well as busy adults with hectic lifestyles.

It is quite a challenging task for most of us to put fresh and nutritious meals on the table everyday and that’s why I love recipes like this where simple ingredients come together to provide nourishment and comfort.

According to Ayurveda, mung dal is the easiest dal to digest. Mung dal is so versatile that it can be given to someone with ailments or cooked elaborately for a celebratory occasion.

🍅Spicy Tomato Pickle🍅
.
Tomato pickle has been such an important part of my childhood holidays. As we children sat around the table eagerly waiting with anticipation for our plates to be filled, the bottle of this magnificent coloured pickle lying on the table always brought solace to me with the knowledge that breakfast or lunch would never be a dull affair with it as an accompaniment.
.
This family recipe is my contribution to Rushina Munshaw Ghildiyal’s #achaarday today. For recipe, click link here- http://www.divinetaste.com/archives/spicy-tomato-pickle/

Sheera or Indian Semolina Halva

This traditional recipe requires lots of ghee, sugar and nuts. And oodles of patience too as the semolina needs to be roasted on low heat for 20 to 25 minutes until nicely toasted. There are no quick fixes to this step and if you under roast the semolina, the real flavour gets lost.

The saffron adds wonderful aroma and colour to this heavenly dish.

I made this yesterday for Akshaya Tritiya which also happens to be our anniversary as per the Vedic/Hindu calendar and we greatly relished it.
