Insect bite tips: With most insect bites you can either let time, steroid cream, or anti-histamine cream stop the discomfort. However, if the redness around the bite persists, spreads, or becomes infected, you should see a doctor and get prescription treatment for the bite. https://anumberoneanimalandpestcontrol.com

Toxoplasma Gondii is a bacteria that can be spread from cats to humans. Cats pick up the bacteria by eating infected rodents, birds, or other small animals. They can then pass the infection along through their feces. Humans can get the infection via contact with infected cat feces. Importantly, if a pregnant woman becomes infected with Toxoplasma, she can potentially pass the infection along to the unborn fetus she is carrying. A fetus that becomes infected with Toxoplasma may develop eye or brain damage either at birth or later on in life. Women who are pregnant or trying to become pregnant should take the following precautions when they are in close contact with cats. Women who are pregnant or trying to become pregnant should take the following precautions when they are in close contact with cats:

• Avoid changing cat litter if possible. If no one else can perform the task, wear disposable gloves and wash your hands with soap and warm water afterwards.
• Ensure that the cat litter box is changed daily. The Toxoplasma parasite does not become infectious until 1 to 5 days after it is shed in a cat's feces.
• Feed your cat commercial dry or canned food, not raw or undercooked meats.
• Keep cats indoors.
• Avoid stray cats, especially kittens. Do not get a new cat while you are pregnant.
• Keep outdoor sandboxes covered.
• Wear gloves when gardening and during contact with soil or sand because it might be contaminated with cat feces that contain Toxoplasma. Wash hands with soap and warm water after gardening or contact with soil or sand.

Mosquitoes transmit multiple dangerous and sometimes deadly diseases. During mosquito season and any time of the year if you will be visiting a mosquito infected area, be sure cover your arms and legs and use an effective mosquito repellant. JAMA (The Journal of the American Medical Association) published an article that recommends the following brands of repellant: Deet (7% pump spray, 15% and 25% aerosol spray, or 30% lotion), Picardin (spray or wipes), IR3535 (lotion or spray), Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus (30% pump spray). All of these preparations are reasonably priced. Read the instructions carefully, and be sure to note the number of hours each application is effective. For complete protection, reapply the solution before the last application wears out. https://anumberoneanimalandpestcontrol.com

Rat Poison Overdose:
There are four chemicals usually used in rat poison, including Bradificoum, Difacinone, Warfarin, Bromadiolone. These compounds are all anti-coagulants that attack coagulating factors that are dependent on vitamin K. Accidental overdose of any of these compounds, can cause side-effects including ecchymoses (bleeding in the skin), epistaxis (nose bleeds), gum bleeds, flank pain (due to internal bleeding), hematuria (blood in the urine), retinal hemorrhages, and internal bleeding (very large doses). Anyone who overdoses on rat poisoning should be taken to the emergency room immediately. The treatment is long term administration of vitamin K

Rodent Control Tips: When cleaning a room infested with rodent droppings or urine, you should wear a mask and gloves and pick up the feces with a gloved hand and drop in a bag. Bedding and all other surfaces that came into contact with rodent dropings or urine must be thoroughly cleaned (in hot water) and disinfected. Do not use a vacuum in the room as this will stir up dust that might contain dangerous rodent transmitted viruses such as the dealy Hanta virus, which is now found throughout North America. If you develop fever or any other signs of disease such as flu symptoms (after cleaning up rodent contamination) you should immediately contact your physician.

Mosquito control tips: Mosquitoes transmit many dangerous diseases including Zika, chikungunya, dengue, West Nile, yellow fever, and malaria. Mosquitoes that transmit Zika virus are found in many countries in South America and the West Indies. Recently a mosquito colony transmitting Zika was found close to Miami, Fl.. The symptoms of Zika are fever, rash, joint pain, and conjunctivitis. Normally the symptoms are not severe and few people die of Zika. However, when a pregnant woman is infected, she can pass the disease on to her child, and it may cause certain birth defects. For this reason pregnant women traveling to an area where Zika virus is found should consider rescheduling the trip, but if they decide to travel, they should take precautions against being bitten, including using an effective mosquito repellent.   https://anumberoneanuimalandpestcontrol.com

Pesticide poisoning tips: Arsenic is no longer used in rodent and other pesticides. It is currently only found in pesticides used for wood preservation. And even in that use, it is not chosen for preservation of domestic wood. It might be used for other type of wood projects such as telephone poles, for example. If you discover that you own arsenic treated wood it is important not to burn it and only cut it if you are wearing a mask and gloves. It might be better to stain the wood to seal in the arsenic. Arsenic can also leach out of wood into the ground and contaminate the ground water. Arsenic causes a disease of the nerves that can include pins and needles, muscle weakness, and burning pain. Other symptoms of arsenic poisoning include diarrhea, pigment changes in the skin, hair loss and white lines in the skin. You should contact a doctor immediately if you believe you or a member of your family is suffering from arsenic poisoning.
