My new paper on donations and lost letters experiments in Northern Ireland shows how conflict make people less cooperative with the out-group, but has not effect on how people behave with the in-group. Wealth and education better explain the variation in cooperative behaviour.

The annual LERN debate is coming up and the motion this year is: "Humans are Unique. There is a qualitative difference between humans and other animals as well as a quantitative one". For the motion we have Kim Hill and Tim Clutton-Brock and against the motion we have Robert Barton and Volker Sommer. It's on Monday 14th November, 5pm at the Gustave Tuck Lecture Theatre, UCL followed by a wine reception.

This place is so pretentious that it bans laptops and tablets, unless they hide in the back room in order to "keep it social". In a desperate bid to keep it "authentic" you are welcome to read the Guardian on paper but god forbid you happen to read it on a tablet.

Small and efficient airport, all very quick to go through and train station with trains to London is just outside, 5 mins from plane to train.

Ok swimming pool, but very affordable, especially if you are a student. Sometimes you may have to ask for the swimming lane to be set up and it's only available for a couple of hours a day.

Sophisticatedly executed hearty Italian food. Everything is great about this place, the food, the desserts, the wine and the coffee. Exceptional good value for the lunch menu.

Super good prices. Cheap to Stansted if you're local, flighty, and hate getting up at 3am for a red eye flight. Plus, the larger lady who runs the desk is fun times! Plus, now they've moved the bus stop, there are less crack heads around trying to distract you from getting into your speedily arrived cab.

Beautiful and authentic (probably) italian eatery on Columbia Rd. Only open in afternoon during the week, but with a killer lunch deal that does starter, main and wine for £13. You won't be disappointed; plus, it's closure is threatened. Go there whilst you can and support its campaign to stay open.
