From Jaron Lanier's "Who Owns the Future"

"Without MIT or Caltech, I imagine figures like Marvin Minsky, or Richard Feynman would have been employed deep in the bunkers of Los Alamos or Bell Labs at the time, which were places less likely to be generous about having a weird kid roaming the hallways without official license."

From what I've heard about Bell Labs, that's exactly what you'd expect to roam the hallways there with or without license.

Having a firm grasp of HTML5 or iOS SDK is so fundamentally different than having the benefit of having learned a programming language that I don't even have a starting point to tear apart this article.

"They are complex entertainment spectacles that do not translate well online because they require context"

http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/tv/showtracker/la-et-st-olympics-nbc-defends-blackout-20120727,0,6531230.story

This is disgusting example of the worst sort of pandering. You put something (or not) online not because you control your audience, but because the audience chooses the content. NBC is in serious denial if they believe they have a substantive call at creating "context".

I'm hoping that this is merely a death throe of an entity that believes itself in an arena of the few, tasked with some greater good to shape perception. Individuals carry their own "context" in the sea of the web. Any content provider can only hope to share a thin slice of our attention.
