A good example of chaos, and why weather is unpredictable but climate is not.

Paris produced a climate deal. I am cautiously optimistic. Close to 200 nations agreed we have a problem and wants to address it, that is a significant historic milestone. An agreed 2 degree limit, but striving for 1.5. A review of targets every 5 years, restricting countries to at least the same, or better targets at every review. It also adopts a single system of measurement. However, we have to remember that only a few years ago 400 ppm was the stabilization target, but we already passed it. There is a lot of hard work ahead. Also remember Copenhagen, which was slammed as a failure, provided the key unprecedented ingredients: wide adoption (138 countries signed up) and a 2 degree target. We now have a good foundation for progress, let's make sure our governments honor their commitments!

It is a little sobering that in 2014 25% of the (US) public believed that the sun revolves around the earth. It is hard not to be snarky about it, but I am actually not. It clearly illuminates the reasons why so many fail to understand climate change and hence automatically deny it. If you never learned how to do addition, you will not be able to do multiplication... I hope our governments take from this that even in "first world" countries we should never see education as a once off tick in a box, but an ongoing process crucial to the health of the entire population.

If Lincoln, Washington, or Kennedy were brought back to life and sat down in Washington, they'd be ashamed, astonished, and would immediately die of shock...
From the article:
“What’s happened over the past 40 years is that both parties have shifted to the right. The Democrats are what used to be called ‘moderate Republicans,’ and the Republicans are just off the spectrum — they’re not even a parliamentary party anymore.”
