NEED YOUR SUPPORT
tl;dr: I’m running the 2015 TCS NYC Marathon on November 2015. My fundraising goal is $3000 and will benefit the kick-ass organization Doctors without Borders. Donate herehttp://events.doctorswithoutborders.org/participant/antonella

Thank you!

HERE WE GO AGAIN. I NEED YOUR HELP.
There were three things I firmly believed I would never do: moving to the US, living in New York City, and running a marathon. And here I am: I’ve been in the US for 21 years, in NYC for almost 9, and I’ve just signed up to run in the New York City Marathon on November 1st.

Each time, it was because I received an offer I could not refuse. A great post-doc at the University of Oregon and the opportunity to be with the person I loved. A job at Google. An offer to be one of the 80 members of Doctors without Borders team at the the 2015 TCS NYC Marathon. Doctors without Borders is one of two non-profit I’m passionate about (the other one is Partners in Health). If there is one reason for me to ever run a marathon, this is it.

Doctors without Borders, Nobel prize recipient in 1999, provides emergency medical and humanitarian aid in areas that are often dangerous and difficult to reach and where people desperately need help. Recently, they played a crucial role in fighting the Ebola outbreak in West Africa, but their work reaches all corners of the globe and tackles some of the most difficult medical challenges.

I pledged to raise at least $1500 by August 15 and $3000 by October 25 for Doctors without Borders. Please help me reach my goal.  I’ll be training hard in the next few months so I can start strong on the super-steep Verrazano Bridge and finish strong in Central Park. Donations of every amount are greatly appreciated.

Make a secure donation on my fundraising page (Yes, your gift is 100% tax deductible and you should ask for corporate match): http://events.doctorswithoutborders.org/participant/antonella

With gratitude,

Antonella

This is quite unsettling. Not just because the US is 5th on the list, but because it's on the list at all.

Countries that execute their own citizens
1 China
2 Iran
3 Saudi Arabia
4 Iraq
5 United States

Mrs. Brady campaigned side by side with her husband against the gun lobby, often pushing him in his wheelchair, but she was propelled into action when her 5-year-old son found a loaded .22 pistol and pointed it at her.

SILVERBACK IS BACK

A link with multiple interesting pieces of information:

1. Clearleft is working on Silverback 3 (awesome Mac app to record usability sessions)

2. They decided to postpone the release to fix usability issues with the app. "It’s actually quite fun designing a usability test to study the behaviour of people running usability tests — all very meta."

3. Some of the usability issues were related to the new flat visual style of Yosemite.
"For instance the trend for flat button styles left users unsure which elements were clickable. Essentially Yosemite had stripped the affordances away. While these issues will hopefully resolve themselves over time, as people become familiar with Yosemite, we didn’t want to launch a usability testing tool with such basic usability problems. Instead we set about crafting a whole new set of UI components, with the added benefit of giving the app more personality."

So looking forward to Silverback 3.
What's happening with Silverback 3. As many of you know, we spent a huge chunk of 2014 working on a new version of our hugely popular Silverback usability testing tool for the Mac. We initially hoped to have the project finished by the end of summer, but this turned out to be a little overly ...

Many believe self-driving cars are the future of transportation. But one self-driving car prototype is displaying a dark side to the promising new technology.
