Pity to see that current day advertisements are still heavily pushing gender roles. This add was a perhaps a missed opportunity for the dad to be using the product in a new, unique and funny way.

Thoughts on drawing
I discovered this post from over a year ago. It's still relevant so I'll post it here. It's surprising how quickly drawing can quickly become a chore. I have talked before about the importance of keeping your drawing fun . I think all too often artist can g...

I've updated this article for clarity
I would like to see it become the norm that comic artists sell copies of their digital work. I’m not sure if everyone is used to this idea. There is often a negative attitude or disinterest whenever the subject of digital com...

Joe Decie on writing
About a hundred and thirty pages. Rough first draft of my new comic. A photo posted by Joe Decie (@joedecie) on Feb 4, 2015 at 3:57pm PST I asked the artist Joe Decie about his writing process after he posted the above image, and he answered: "...first I di...

Comics and the web
I would like to see more normal that comic artists sell copies of their digital work. I’m not sure if everyone is used to this idea. The comic book itself is such a fetishised item. Often there is a negative attitude whenever the subject is brought up. Mayb...

Where do ideas come from?
This is a question dreaded by anyone doing creative work, as usually the first truthful answer is, "I don't know". I have also previously said that looking for ideas is like asking your brain please and it eventually comes up with the goods...Which in short...

Comic Spot Interview
For nostalgia purposes I went back and listened to an interview I did at the end of 2010 with the Comic Spot hosted by John Retalick. I was bracing myself to cringe pretty hard at the sound of my voice, but surprisingly it only stung a little; it only cause...

Revised 2nd edition of George Bloop comic Now available!
My new (revised) comic is now available to purchase digitally ! This was a story that I was really itching to tell and the first time around I just didn't feel like it met the expectations I had for it. A few people read it and liked it...but they expressed...

I haven't heard of symbolia either, will have to check it out. I'm purely focused on getting a static image to show without being too big or small or warping, as you encountered. you'd think it would be fairly simple. I believe I have a decent approach though and I want keep exploring it if possible. I feel like digital publishing has given me a new lease on my enthusiasm for comics.
If you're interested in exploring ePubs I would highly recommend the free software Sigil. I try to stay away from Calibre, it's useful for some things, but I find it tries to insert too much junk for my liking.

New name but sort of the same blog (but different)
Hello! I've gone ahead and reinvented my old blogger blog. Early last year I decommissioned this blog and moved all my activities over to my own domain ( awcomix.com ). I'm still putting all my drawing and comic work there, and it's the best place to keep u...

Introduction

I am an Australian Comic artist recently relocated to Canada, I have been drawing comics for around 15 years and in that time I have self published various comics, as well as contributed to various anthologies such as Tango and Conceived on a tram, and Dailies. I have also edited three digital comic anthologies titled ‘Chugnut Comics’.

My comics are mostly autobiographical, I am interested in what might be called alternative comics, with subject matter that deals with real life characters.

I occasionally undertake illustration work as time permits. Get in touch if you have a project in mind. I have previously worked on a range of project from large to small, such as spot illustrations for magazines as well as larger projects such as a series of illustrated children’s readers.

By day I work as a public library consultant.
