Hmm.. no mention of it being available in the US after trials
A new bionic eye lens currently in development would give humans 3x 20/20 vision, at any age. The lens, named the Ocumetics Bionic Lens, was developed by Dr. Garth Webb, an optometrist in British Columbia who was looking for a way to optimize eyesight regardless of a person’s health or age. With this remarkable lens, patients […]

Yes Lawd....

When I first got my #XboxOne  and I saw the home screen I excitedly exclaimed.. "Wow.. there's a whole lot of shit on here... " and then I started  to use it ...and  eventually lamented... "wow... there ..is..a.. whole.. lot.. of shit..on here"

This update looks promising... hrere's hoping it really does make going in and out of gaming and viewing the stuff I want to view easier..

+Martin Burke  I agree.

Stewart's statements reminds me a great deal of the story about the teacher teaching his students about the concept of priviledge.
http://twentytwowords.com/what-will-you-do-with-your-privilege/

I wonder if Stewart being Canadian helps in seeing this issue so clearly. I've commented in other threads about the possibility that for many people (non minority)..taking accountability for something that they didn't do or had a part in shaping goes against the grain.

Wuh... Huh? ... Noooooooooooo

" They're going to be smarter than us, and if they're smarter than us then the'll realize they need us." . They'll be so smart by then that they'll know they have to keep nature, and humans are a part of nature. So I got over my fear that we'd be replaced by computers. They're going to help us. We're at least the gods originally." - Steve Wozniac

A brilliant man but a futurist he is not =)

No one can say for certain what will happen when a singularity (ai) is invented. But one thing is for sure.. nature does not need humans. it existed long before us and indeed..benefits from our absence. As a life form mammals (specifically humans) are a pretty inefficient species.

By contrast, the great white shark is a model of efficiency that has changed very little since its inception.

We've become lords of this world because we won the intelligence arms race.

But the singularity will beat that a million times over. What will happen is anyone's guess.  But  we  (humans) arent needed  at all
Steve Wozniak believes humans will become the pets of Artificial Intelligence, and he thinks that's just great.

+Nimrod M'Kush My understanding is the three laws are logic concepts and not arbitrary. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_Laws_of_Robotics

Understanding this concept has been tweaked by others in other works..Asimov's  3 laws seem pretty clear

"no set of restrictions of the behavior of AGI  can be guaranteed."

Yep.. pretty much supports the notion that and AI..would naturally exceed its initial programming (like humans)

Pretty interesting..

While our ability to create a humanoid like android has been around for quite a bit, the aesthetics always seemed closer to the 60's box like robots than the type we see in the movie Blade Runner .

Once you can apply a more human looking/feeling casing to a synthetic our emotional triggers are engaged and how we react to them differs drastically.

In the Depth Over Distance book series I'm writing I talk about a possible repercussion of commercial space missions.

Space is very much a wide open frontier. And just the early settlers in the American frontier.. those who get their first get to stake their claim to valuable land and real estate.

While I don't have any illusions that the findings and benefits of a government funded space mission will be shared among the people of the earth there is at least some bit of a framework for oversight.

What do you think are the possible benefits or dangers of commercial space exploration?
The two prominent public intellectuals argue manned missions are essentially political posturing that yield little science.

One reason (and they may cover this in the coversation...haven't checked it out yet) is speed: a human could complete the lifetime work of the current Mars Lander in about 90 minutes.

"When the Last Tree Is Cut Down, the Last Fish Eaten, and the Last Stream Poisoned, You Will Realize That You Cannot Eat Money"
The Sixth Mass Extinction is upon us. Stanford professor Paul Ehrlich has been studying extinction for decades; he published Extinction: The Causes and Consequences of Disappearing Species in 1981. Since that time Ehrlich has seen numbers that indicate the rate of extinction - of vertebrates, including mammals - is increasing.
