I've been fighting an increasing number of these attacks - on behalf of clients who come to me for a rescue - over the last couple months.
The numbers are increasing rapidly and the attack is very stealthy and hard to detect. (Many scanners are saying the site is clean when it is not.)
The site can look just fine - appear healthy - and need not be displaying the error that Sucuri has mentioned, in order to be affected by variations of this attack.
Their post indicates that this is a single attack type but I've seen four or five variants now and they're all a little different though very similar.
