Bored and unchallenged with the lack of challenge writing alone brought me, I saw the future of communication was online and went back to school to pick up interactive media mad skillz. This move kicked my career into the far-left lane, and I quickly discovered that all those years learning to communicate for every sector and just about every audience under the sun served me beautifully online.
Working as a webmaster, I stumbled into SEO in an effort to get my clients’ sites to perform better in the search engines. My penchant for writing engaging copy, combined with my gravitational pull toward anything analytical and competitive, gave me the ability to take my clients’ sites from unknown to top results for the keywords they wanted to rank for. And that is how my addiction started.
Then along came social media. I thought I had died and gone to heaven. (Or #heaven for all of you Twitaholics out there. Heh.) A huge, um, fan of the book Raving Fans, I still can’t believe it’s my job to engage with people online for clients and help create raving “fans” of their brand. So, naturally, my services include implementing SEO and social media strategies for clients, as well as measuring those efforts through the use of Web analytics. But I also gets to satisfy the cravings of my inner geek out and take deep dives in code from time to time.
When I'm not working, you can usually find me on a trail of some kind or on Twitter — or doing both simultaneously. (Don’t try this at home, kids.) My other great defining passion is shoes. Although you can’t pay me to do any other kind of shopping since the advent of Amazon, I have a homing device for shoe stores. The bigger, clunkier and funkier the shoe, the better.
