My latest post and a must for anyone who manages large sites.
Google Analytics' new Organic Landing Pages report is the suck for larger sites. In this video I demonstrate a hack to get better data! (Shh.)

Have access to me for one hour a week over a year = $9,000+ value. That's what I just added to my dashboard course. I explain why in the post.
Weekly office hours have been added to the list of benefits from the Annielytics Dashboard Course.

<throws down the gauntlet>
Are you reporting on KPIs like new vs returning visitors, users, etc? If so, you're most likely filling your reports with junk.

Avoid data drama. Learn three marketing tasks that the INDEX function can handle more effectively than the OFFSET.
The OFFSET function is terribly volatile and can bring Excel to its knees. This video demonstrates three marketing functions for the INDEX function.

Have a table you want to add to a dashboard but don't want to limit yourself to the top 10 rows? Make it scroll! I show you how.
If you need to add a table to a dashboard, but it's too long, make it scroll using the the scrollbar form control and powered by the INDEX function.

In my latest ‪#‎functionfriday‬ post I demonstrate how I used the SUMIF and SUMIFS functions in a single formula to make an entire dashboard update with one drop-down menu. SUMIFS is especially awesome. I use it as a hack for a multiple-criteria VLOOKUP. I also explain why these are better than using pivot tables/charts for dashboards you want to update dynamically. ‪#‎sexydata‬

Story
Introduction
Having gotten my start as a journalist, I've brought more than 20 years of editorial experience into the exciting world of the interwebz. (No, I’m not counting writing I did for my middle school yearbook. Yes, I’m older than I look — it’s the freckles.)

Bored and unchallenged with the lack of challenge writing alone brought me, I saw the future of communication was online and went back to school to pick up interactive media mad skillz. This move kicked my career into the far-left lane, and I quickly discovered that all those years learning to communicate for every sector and just about every audience under the sun served me beautifully online.

Working as a webmaster, I stumbled into SEO in an effort to get my clients’ sites to perform better in the search engines. My penchant for writing engaging copy, combined with my gravitational pull toward anything analytical and competitive, gave me the ability to take my clients’ sites from unknown to top results for the keywords they wanted to rank for. And that is how my addiction started.

Then along came social media. I thought I had died and gone to heaven. (Or #heaven for all of you Twitaholics out there. Heh.) A huge, um, fan of the book Raving Fans, I still can’t believe it’s my job to engage with people online for clients and help create raving “fans” of their brand. So, naturally, my services include implementing SEO and social media strategies for clients, as well as measuring those efforts through the use of Web analytics. But I also gets to satisfy the cravings of my inner geek out and take deep dives in code from time to time.

When I'm not working, you can usually find me on a trail of some kind or on Twitter — or doing both simultaneously. (Don’t try this at home, kids.) My other great defining passion is shoes. Although you can’t pay me to do any other kind of shopping since the advent of Amazon, I have a homing device for shoe stores. The bigger, clunkier and funkier the shoe, the better.

An amazing family-run business. I just started going to them, and they took great care of me. They're the kind of auto shop that will tell you what repairs you need and which you can hold off on for a while. So, so awesome.

I couldn't be more disappointed with the services I received from this law firm. I should have known when they encouraged me to accept an insurance settlement of $500 for an accident that put resulted in 2.5 months of disability that they weren't interested in doing any kind of real work. Save yourself a lot of aggravation and go with a firm that will actually care about you and move your case forward.

This salon is horrible. The workers are really rude. The girl who did my pedicure kept massaging my leg really hard and boring her thumb into the bone. I told her that it hurt after wincing several times and pulling my leg back. And she kept doing it. I've been getting pedicures for years and have never experienced anything like that. But the worst thing is I made an appointment for a mani and pedi. The appointment was for 6:30, and they closed at 8:30. I sat with my feet soaking for 15 mins before someone came over to do my pedi. Then they told me at 7:30 that they couldn't do my pink and white fill b/c the girl wouldn't have enough time. I was shocked and pushed back. Then they told me I could get color instead. I was like, "You're kidding, right? No. I get pink and white." They told me to come back tomorrow - with an hour to go before they closed. Never again.
