Does anyone use a different keyboard layout to QWERTY? I'm looking at Dvorak and Colemak. I like that Colemak keeps shortcuts keys (copy, paste, undo, cut) in the same place, as well as the punctuation. Downside is, it's not readily supported by Windows, so there'd be a bit of dicking around to install it, whereas Dvorak is already a keyboard option.

I'd be interested in your experiences if you use either of these, or something else.

Questions  -

I'm thinking of putting some sort of scheduling calendar on my site, purely to advise people of my availability. It doesn't need functionality for them to make bookings, but I'd like something that displays something like the attached pic... where I can show multiple projects and define them by confirmed/pending and also show things like public holidays/leave, etc.

Most of the plug-ins I've seen either show days as fully-booked/free, or work on appointments (tailored for accommodation or service providers like hair salons, etc.), or are way more complex than I need (event scheduling, ticket sales, etc.)

Any suggestions for a simple scheduling or calendar plug-in that will achieve what I need?

What's your style of argument?
How do you change someone’s mind if you think you are right and they are wrong? Psychology reveals the last thing to do is the tactic we usually resort to.

Argumentation is generally a bit droll, but then I am sort of Buddhist, and appreciate the need of discovery, without obvious instruction.

Did you know that from 21st April (that's just 3 weeks from now) Google will be ranking mobile-friendly sites higher in their search results?

Now is not the time to panic (there will be plenty of sites in the same boat), but if your site is NOT mobile-friendly, it is definitely the time to consider revising your site.

If you haven't upgraded or updated your site for a while, this might also be a good opportunity to reconsider the content on your site.

You can check whether your site is mobile-friendly or not here: https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/mobile-friendly/
Now's the time to make your website mobile friendly.

OK Melbourne peeps, I'm heading your way and I've got a spare ticket to tomorrow night's concert.

With Google's algo change to boost mobile-friendly sites over non-mobile-friendly sites, what are everyone's thoughts on how this will affect site content?

Obviously searches will be geared to the more conversational, but I'm thinking more in terms of volume. While targeting specific keywords has been playing less of a role with LSI  and overall keyword/content relevance (which, IMHO, is a great move), clearly mobile sites don't have the same capacity content volume as non-mobile sites.

If pages become lighter on text to align with mobile design, is it going to become more difficult to create rich, relevant text that is seen to have "value"? Are we going to have enough space to "create the story"... or will there be a shift to "just the facts"?

Are site owners better off having dedicated mobile/non-mobile sites with custom content for each, or will responsive design change the overall approach we take to writing copy in order to meet the needs of both formats?

OK.. so I'm totally useless when it comes to computery things. Are any of you fabulously brilliant people able to give me some advice on getting Outlook to work properly?

Essentially my spam folder has vanished from my work account (and I've done that thing where you find the hidden folders... it ain't there either... it's gone) and so I'm getting hundreds of spam emails every day. I used to get around this with Rules, but all but one of these have stopped working.

Done the obvious like running a repair from the disc, deleting and setting up the account again, etc.

Sorry to ask the question here, but Microsoft are beyond hopeless when it comes to support and I'm running out of ideas! I know a few of you are incredibly tech-minded, so I'm hoping you might take pity on a tech-tard like me.

I'm also about to close down for the weekend because I've been sick all week, so no hurry.

+Sandy Smith - 2010 and no recent updates. Not sure what you mean about updating/resetting folders.

+Aron Fiechter - cool. Will look into that.

+Jo Dunaway - I hear ya!! And Microsoft are beyond useless when it comes to support.

+Gary Myers  - yeah... you lost me at Exchange (I'm not kidding when I say I have no idea beyond the interface). Is that the online version? In which case, no, not running on that.

Have also exported everything into a PST file, deleted the profile and recreated, but still no junk folder and rules are still didn't work properly.

Gonna take a look at the Gmail option.

Thanks all..!

So what is everyone reading at the moment? I thought it might be fun to put together a light-hearted blog on what writers/editors/etc. read, so what's sitting on your nightstand? If you'd like to be included, give me a brief overview of the book and what prompted you to start reading.

I loved the copy you wrote for that shoe company! But yeah, sometimes taking an "out there" approach can startle a client like a skittish deer, so getting a little feedback early on in the process can save a lot of angst on both sides.
You've worked hard on your client's copy and now it's ready to go, or is it? How do you really know when your copy is client ready? Belinda Weaver explains.

One of my all time favourites to write! I get clients being skittish around really bold marketing though. It takes courage to really stand out (regardless of what we/they say they want).

I appreciate your added tips +Anna Butler!

Just had a email from a friend of my sister-in-law who I met on the weekend. Kinda made my morning :)

Was really good to meet you on Saturday. You are one of the most interesting people I have met in ages. And I did enjoy your rebellious streak on the dance floor!
