Am having some first hand experience in this realm as my mother in law, who lives with my wife and myself, requires 24 hours a day care, as now does my father, who is receiving home hospice at my sister's home. My wife has been pretty much a full time caregiver for the past 15 years, first in the care of her father til he passed and now her mom. Medicare and Medicaid are poorly equipped to handle the rising need for long term care of the elderly. I tried to get long term care insurance for my wife and I, but given my wife's past health issues, she didn't qualify--I said, you take us both, or forget it. They forgot it. We as a nation really need to do a heckuva lot better. My rant for the day.
