The future is what we make it...
I was scared after I was thrown out of school. I didn’t want to spend my life in prison. I didn’t want to have a 9-5 job. I understand not every 9-5 job is bad. But I didn’t even want a job I loved. I was afraid of not being ...

Admitting these faults and learning from them is what is actually going to make self-driven vehicles safer on the road than their human-driven counterparts:
We're still very much in the early stages of the self-driving car revolution, and early results are generally positive. But a new report submitted by Google to the California Department of Motor Vehicles reveals some interesting insights into potential outcomes if the cars weren't required to have human drivers on standby.

Confirmation bias playing its role, we still have a long way to go.
The real gender issue isn’t a lack of qualified women, but a surplus of unqualified men.

The path of least resistance...
As the number of choices increases, so does the effort required to collect information and make good decisions. Featuritis can be an exhausting disease for users.

If we believe everything that we're told, we could all live to be 150 years old!

A thought provoking rant from Seth >> Peak Mac
The Grateful Dead hit their peak in 1977. Miles Davis in 1959, Warhol perhaps ten years later. It's not surprising that artists hit a peak—their lives have an arc, and so does the work. It can't possibly keep amazing us...

A new proposal to fight back against Digital Rights Management
The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), the nonprofit body that maintains the Web's core standards, made a terrible mistake in 2013: they decided to add DRM—the digital locks that train your computer to say "I can't let you do that, Dave"; rather than "Yes, boss"—to the Web's standards. At the time, we fought the proposal on a principled basis: DRM has no place in the open Internet because of the many ways it shuts down legal, legitimate activities...

Taking a look at machine vision, the future of artificial intelligence:
The buzz around artificial intelligence, or AI, has been growing strong over the past year. We’ve never been closer to unlocking the benefits of this technology. 2016 will see new kinds of AI-powered devices as we make progress on one of the most difficult challenges in AI: getting our devices to understand what they are seeing.

Handy little gadget in the process of crowdfunding, great idea! Atmotube tells you if the air you’re breathing is toxic
Like you, I assume that the environment I am sitting in right now is pretty safe. I mean, I don't see anything dangerous, feel uncomfortable, or smell anything that I should be worried about. Yet I may be filling my lungs with harmful elements that my cognitive sensory abilities are incapable of noticing.

Salford Business School is home to the Search & Social Media Marketing course that I was fortunate enough to attend in the autumn of 2011. The course was held in the Maxwell building, but has since relocated to the stunning new facilities at Media City in Salford Quays. The Business School is at the cutting edge, integrating research excellence and academic achievement with direct involvement from local businesses in course development and presentation. This resonates in a job market where the practical application of knowledge gained in combination with a University experience sets graduates apart from other candidates.
