#ACT Defining Moments

At ACT, the most important things that we do and spend time on are sometimes the most difficult to measure. But sometimes we are rewarded with quantifiable outcomes that lifts our spirits immeasurably! Our hard work and the sincere, consistent efforts of our tutors and volunteers with beneficiary students prove to be justified and well worth it when we receive news of their exam results. Last year, thanks to the support of our ACT champions and donors, we wholly sponsored the coaching of thirteen, underprivileged SSC students. I’m thrilled to report that they have got 100% results and among them was our topper Anjali with 86 percent!

Likewise, our HSC Commerce students, Manisha & Govindamma secured 68% and 65% respectively, which is a great improvement from their Eleventh standard performance, thanks to the tireless efforts of ACT volunteer, Akshita Patel. These bright sisters are the most educated in their family and are now ready for bigger dreams of a Banking career. For us at ACT, these are the defining moments that we celebrate with much joy and gratitude. We congratulate the successful student beneficiaries and hank all our volunteer tutors, donors and champions and seek continued support and donations for carrying on our crucial work of transforming minds and changing lives of the underprivileged. We must continue to invest in our girls and women.

ACT celebrations for Women’s Day at New York, Goa and Mumbai
March 5: ACT ambassadors Dharti and Nivedita Desai marched with the United Nations Women’s Peace Association in a bid to end violence against women. Ending violence against women is a universal cause and needs female solidarity across borders to ensure every girl child and woman is safe, secure, and well cared for in our world.
March 6: ACT volunteer Jaya Mehrotra and her friends participated in Times Women’s Drive 2016 to celebrate women’s achievements, while also spreading awareness about ACT's role in promoting education and empowerment among girls and women.
March 11: The week ended on a high note with more than two hundred ACT women coming together in a celebration of the women, for the women, by the women. ACT student performers conveyed serious social messages in a fun way through song, dance, and skit. A talk on nutrition for women was also well received and books with more insights on women’s health were distributed for free to all women present. Clothes, bags, cushion covers, kitchen towels, nightgowns, etc. made under Project Kalakriti, Project Sambhav and Project Shivan were kept for sale, which would go a long way in boosting the beneficiaries' confidence

ACT 30 :
Empowering Differently Abled Children
Through a collaboration with NMMC 'etc' Education, Training & Services Centre for persons with disability (PWDs)--a governmental organization working towards the welfare of persons with special needs--and Inner Wheel Club of New Bombay (IWC) District 314, Animedh Charitable Trust (ACT) recently launched a unique opportunity for imparting vocational training to differently abled children with mild to moderate learning difficulties and persons with hearing impairment in the Navi Mumbai region. We set up a tailoring class for the students of ‘etc’ who are accompanied by their care-takers. The curriculum has been designed to suit the students’ needs, and their care-takers as well as special teachers at ‘etc’ will support the tutor to facilitate their training. The special students are very eager to master this skill which will help them earn money and become self-reliant. We wish them the very best, and on course completion we shall help them connect to future livelihood earning avenues.
