Schwabacher’s Landing at sunrise. What a treat, even if I stand there with 50 other photographers. An early arrival certainly helps to stake claim on a tripod location.

"He pledged allegiance to Hezbollah, Al-Qaeda AND ISIS, three organizations that are de facto at war with each other, showing he was ignorant about all three, let alone politics in the Middle East in general.

He knew practically nothing about Islam and according to his wife, father and community, he was not religious in the slightest.

Basically he was ignorant, self-conflicted, racist, sexist, homophobe, had a sick admiration for authority and was obsessed with guns and violence, eventually acting upon all of that. Sorry folks, but your supposed 'Islamic radical terrorist from Afghanistan' is as American as apple pie made with homegrown apples and baked in an American-made oven."

I've talked to gun nuts, and in my opinion, it's not just blissful ignorance. If that were the case, information and logic would work on them--but as we've all noticed, it doesn't. Like, at all. It's like pebbles bouncing off a moving train; it has no effect whatsoever. They could know better but they refuse to examine any other information, because it would contradict their beliefs based on fear. Fear is the root problem here, I think. Fear causes hate, ignorance and violence. It causes people to choose selfishness. It causes people to stay willfully ignorant, because they have a desperate need to protect their fear-based beliefs.

It sounds preposterous but some studies have found that with these kinds of people, their brains are literally different: https://goo.gl/7zPC2z (See the part about the fear centers in their brains).

Enlightenment would require that they confront these fears...and most of them are simply not going to do that. Fear makes people crazy and cowardly. I mean, this is how the German death camps happened. That wasn't a special evil. It was a lot of very fearful people going along with the worst of humanity out of willful ignorance.

And then there’s the greed. The #NRA and the thriving gun culture in this country are more than happy to cash in all this crazy dysfunction, so they will do literally anything to protect this cash flow, including lying and stoking the flames of fear.

This is why I think one of two things is going to have to happen. The state is simply going to have to override the nutbags and do the right thing like we did with slavery, or we’re going to have to try working on a ton of little things that affect the problem indirectly--along with some practical things like reducing ammo production. You can 3D print a gun but it still needs bullets. So let’s have a lot less of that and a lot MORE background checks. I’d prefer the Australian solution but it’s probably going to be the small steps, and the Republicans are all going to be fighting us every step of the way.

Creating art has always been considered therapeutic, yet many people avoid the activity because they lack artistic skills. According to a recent study, however, your artistic ability doesn’t matter when it comes to reaping the benefits. Art can help you de-stress even if you’ve never touched a paint brush.

"So stop acting like your little AR-15 is going to stop tyranny. Just be honest. You like it because it makes your pee-pee big, and when you fire it, it gives you a tingle in your no-no place. Trust me, I understand. The only reason you want to protect your second amendment now is to justify buying an AR-15 or weapons for your home. I understand. I have them. But is it worth it? Does it really make you feel safe? If it does, it’s a false sense of security that statistically puts us in more danger.

As a fellow gun nut, I’ll take this journey with you. But let’s stop lying to ourselves."
Self-admitted gun nut from Texas finally cracks down on the excuses of NRA supporters with high-powered assault rifles, and offers legislation that could fix the issue on both sides.

I've stayed in some gross motels, but this one just shot up to the top of that list. Wow. For the rates they charge in the summer ($200 and up) you would THINK they could do something about all the things that are missing, dirty, falling apart or of interest to bugs. I don't know if the other rooms were anything like ours but to even have one room in the shape that we experienced is completely unacceptable. I have NO idea how this place passes inspections of any kind. Also parking ranges from difficult to insane here. On the plus side the owner was nice when I asked for the wifi code, and it's very close to the boardwalk. But that's literally the only positives I could think of.
