I do way to much stuff, no really several of the hobbies that I like to indulge in take up more time then most people do in building their careers.
First I started participating in The Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA for short) back in 1990. For those of you who don't know what that is the SCA is a group dedicated to the recreation of the better parts of history pre-1600. "What do you mean by better parts?" you may ask, well the best way to put it is all the fun without the plagues. We dress up in period costumes, wear (semi) period armor, and beat each other with swords and spears made of Rattan.
When I started in the SCA I had a Celtic persona named Kort Redfern (persona can be best described as sort of a RPG character only instead of being built with dice, they are built with history books), but after taking a break after my son was born I decided to do something different when I came back and went with a Japanese persona and took the name Yagyu Tametomo.
Now even though I don't play in the SCA as much as I used to I still help people make armor and clothing for their Asian personas as well as read a lot about history.
Now if that wasn't enough to take up a good chunk of time I also like to tinker with gadgets. If I'm not tweaking my Android phone, I'm putting together a solar system, modding a Nerf gun, or trying to figure out the best way to take a good picture with a crappy camera. Have you heard of some cool new hack? Tell me and I'll probably try it.
Next I'm also starting to make costumes for things out side of the SCA, turning my crafting skill from there to things like Halo or Gears of War armor and clothing. Some would call this cosplay, but honestly at this point I haven't worn any of my costumes out so I don't think that definition applies. :-D
And you know what? I also like to write! (If you have made it this far you probably are thinking to yourself "You Don't Say!" in a very sarcastic manner. You know you shouldn't be so sarcastic, it's beneath you). I have had a few things published in the past (all poetry in defunct magazines, but dammit it counts) and currently I'm writing for Angry Men Movie Reviews, and looking to start putting fingers to keyboard for some Android sites. We'll see.
And lastly, but most important, I'm a Dad. All of these other activities fall to the wayside when I have a chance to just hang out with my son Cortland (16.5), or my daughter Salina (2.5). They are the pride of my life and I love them with all my heart.
So that is me in a nut shell...
No not really, I'm to big to get in a nut shell and if you did somehow find one big enough to fit my fat ass it wouldn't look anything like that.
I guess it would be more accurate to say that is me on G+.
