So, I tried the developer preview for android N on my 6P today and I liked it. Notification shade is my favourite improvement so far, buy it's early days and I didn't want mess up my daily driver, so I reverted back to M. The reversion gives the option to install as new, so I thought I wonder how i would get by using just Google apps and Stock android.
I immediately encountered some issues. Two services I use a lot are Pocketcasts for podcasts and Feedly for RSS/newsfeed. As Google no longer offers apps for these purposes (RIP Reader and Listen) I feel justified in using them.
I don't like the stock wallpaper so that will have to go, and most of the widgets are boring, ugly or useless. I particularly don't like the weather widget, Google Now cards are nicer and more informative.
I recently moved over to Play Music from Spotify and am enjoying that recently, so okay in the music dept.
I'm on an Inbox push at the moment, trying to tame that beast is proving fun.
Overall I feel quite optimistic, and coincidentally hoping to reap battery life benefits from having less apps. We'll see....
