See what I mean about getting up close to wildlife in Botswana? This was taken with a regular lens from the water's edge at Hyena Pan Lodge where the elephants (and if you look closely in the background on the left, giraffe) enjoy drinking from the waterhole   #botswanasafari2015  +Sunway Safaris Small Group Adventure Travel  #botswana   #africa   #elephants   #africansafari

Diary entry:
Meet the day that (almost) killed me.
Okay I’m exaggerating but I had a slightly too full plate this Tuesday.
Actually the issue was my stubborn desire to get work done before travelling tomorrow, but in the end I will have to do a small project on the road.
Never mind, it shouldn’t be too bad – and it’s not stopping me looking forward to London.
Managed to get some fresh air with a walk but no time for anything else – now to pack (it’s nearly 11pm…)

The Beer:
Name: Indus IPA
Producer: Thwaites of Blackburn, England
Alcohol content: 4.6 %
Bottle size: 500 ml

Purchased from: Local supermarket

#grownupbeerdiary

What could be more appropriate than an English (almost) pint before we leave for the UK tomorrow? This was good, too – especially for a supermarket brew.

Diary entry:
Blimey, the work just keeps on coming – which on the face of it is a good thing.
I would still like to have an extra ten or so hours a day, though; that would be ideal.
Anyway I slogged my way through two translation projects before getting back to blogging and editing.
Another reason I need a little free time is to fly Dennis the Drone again – haven’t done so since Botswana when he acted a bit weird.
Hopefully it was just the intense heat – not really a major issue here at the moment.

The Beer:
Name: Polar Beer
Producer: To Tårn of Trondheim, Norway
Alcohol content: 4.5 %
Bottle size: 330 ml
Purchased from: Gift from Bernt Barstad

#grownupbeerdiary

It doesn’t get much more exclusive than this – Polar Beer (ouch!) is only available on Svalbard so this one was personally imported for me by my beer buddy Bernt. And it was very good, too…

Diary entry:
Up unpleasantly early due to our flights being equally so.
Never mind, that tiredness is always forgotten as we head for the airport.
This time we travelled with SAS and the outbound route was via Stavanger and on to Heathrow.
First time at the new Terminal 2 and very impressed – even more so with our upgraded rental car from Sixt, a sweet Mercedes C-class.
Drove to a pub for lunch then to the supermarket to pick up an exotic brew for the day…

The Beer:
Name: Bad King John Black Ale
Producer: Ridgeway Brewery of Oxfordshire, England
Alcohol content: 6.0 %
Bottle size: 500 ml
Purchased from: Sainsbury’s supermarket, Bracknell

#grownupbeerdiary

Something quientessentially English about this label which probably explains why I fell for it. But it was a good choice, and nice to be able to pick up 6% strength craft beer at the supermarket. Heavy on the flavour and a good way to start our time in the UK.

Diary entry:
Bit of a killer day on the work front – good to look back on with a cold beer though!
Had to hit the ground running right after breakfast to make progress on two translation projects.
As usual I was kicking myself for not getting more done before but such is life.
I put in about 10 hours today and made enough progress to be able to relax for an hour before bed.
Being self-employed isn’t always easy, I tell you – but it sure beats working for the man…

The Beer:
Name: AM:PM All Day IPA
Producer: Thornbridge Brewery of Bakewell, England
Alcohol content: 4.5 %
Bottle size: 500 ml
Purchased from: Gulating Beer Store, Trondheim

#grownupbeerdiary

Back on the IPA then, and what an IPA – this is definitely one of the best of so many excellent versions. Wildly fruity flavour and extremely refreshing with just the right level of bitterness. Score!

Diary entry:
Monday morning rolled around without being much different to Saturday or Sunday..
Having said that, I probably did less work today that at the weekend due to other errands.
Errands which included a beer run, so not complaining.
In other news I went to the gym for a swim and plans for next week’s London trip came together.
Chuffed to get tickets to the Harry Potter Studios Tour – that should be interesting…

The Beer:
Name: Ichiban
Producer: Kirin of Japan (brewed in Europe by Weihenstephan of Germany)
Alcohol content: 5 %
Bottle size: 330 ml

Purchased from: Vinmonopolet

#grownupbeerdiary

This was very good, although it should be considering it’s brewerd by the oldest brewery in the world (and one of the best) – Weihenstephan in Germany. Crisp and refreshing, definitely would be great with sushi :-)
