Diary entry:
Slept in a little today then started editing.
As expected, the summer rush also began for translation work.
I received requests from companies I haven’t worked for in ages but I’m out of office now.
Finished another video that almost broke the iMac, or so it seemed…
Packed for Japan – breaking all records in that I started in the afternoon rather than at midnight.

The Beer:
Name: East Coast IPA
Producer: Greene King of Bury St. Edmunds, England
Alcohol content: 4%
Bottle size: 500 ml
Purchased from: Gulating Beer Store, Trondheim, Norway.

#grownupbeerdiary

Back to a classic English brewery making a new twist on their famous IPA. This one is a blend of American hops and East of England brewing, which works very well.

So, I'm off to Japan tomorrow! And yes, this is actually a picture of Japan - the beaches of Okinawa are the best in the country and more like Thailand than Tokyo. Really looking forward to seeing a very different side of the country than the one that comes to mind when it is mentioned. And it will be my first time ever in Japan, too - I will get a half day in Osaka on the way back which should provide quite a contrast. Follow the adventure using the hashtag

We have a (new) winner - the Hampton by Hilton London Waterloo is our new favourite mid-range hotel in the Big Smoke. With a perfect location, cool modern style and excellent rates, it's an ideal base from which to explore the city. It doesn't hurt that some of London's best pubs are within walking distance, either...

Diary entry:
After a lie-in of sorts, a lazy Sunday.
Basked in the sunshine here at home before a quick trip to Lian lake.
Sizzled in the heat for a while, then home to change.
The three of us then cycled through the woods to visit Bodil and Bernt at their place a.k.a. Lian Kjøkkenbryggeri.
Along with a spectacular dinner eaten outside in the sun it was time to taste the latest home-brew collaboration…

The Beer:
Name: Red Grant
Producer: Lian Kjøkkenbryggeri with me and Per Tronsaune, Trondheim, Norway
Alcohol content: ? %
Bottle size: 500 ml
Purchased from: We made it.

#grownupbeerdiary

This was the second time I collaborated with Bernt of Lian Kjøkkenbryggeri on a beer – he wanted a type and a name for what would be his batch number 007. Clearly it needed to be Bond-themed, and I was pleased that I managed to come up with something a little less obvious – a red ale named after one of the villains in ‘From Russia with Love’. But I was even more pleased that it turned out so well; I can’t wait to pick up a crate tomorrow :-)

Diary entry:
Up and at it straight after breakfast.
That meant that I could finish my translation job early.
It also meant that I had time to go mountain biking, which was ace.
Did some more work when I got back but not a troublesome amount.
This beer was one of a stash I picked up from Gulating – what a bottle!

The Beer:
Name: Bajas Bayer
Producer: Rena Bryggeri of Rena, Norway
Alcohol content: 4.7 %
Bottle size: 500 ml
Purchased from: Gulating Beer Store, Trondheim, Norway

#grownupbeerdiary

A new brewery for me, but they have been at it a while now according to their website and it shows in the quality of this Bayer. Love the clean label design, too…

Diary entry:
Got a lot more sleep last night, thankfully.
Spent the day editing video for Botswana and preparing for Okinawa.
Broke for a couple of hours to swim a kilometre and shop for clothes for the latter.
Back home to finish up an introductory article for my Japan trip.
After a late night walk, caught up with the rest of the world by watching True Detective…

The Beer:
Name: Pårter
Producer: Nua Brygghus of Mandal, Norway
Alcohol content: 4.7%
Bottle size: 500 ml
Purchased from: Gulating Beer Store, Trondheim, Norway.

#grownupbeerdiary

Yet another new Norwegian brewery for me, and an excellent porter from Mandal. Seriously, Norway is winning this whole craft beer game…

Diary entry:
For some inexplicable and extremely annoying reason I woke up at 5 a.m. today.
Even worse, I couldn’t get back to sleep again.
So naturally enough, this had an effect on my day.
I was determined not to just capitulate though and managed to get my hotel review finished.
That was quite a result, all things considered.

The Beer:
Name: Pale Ale
Producer: Hadeland Håndverksbryggeri of Gran, Norway
Alcohol content: 4.7%
Bottle size: 500 ml
Purchased from: Glutting Beer Store, Trondheim, Norway.

#grownupbeerdiary

A new one for me, and a great one too. Loved the fruity flavour and bitter kick – and the very Norwegian label…

Diary Entry:
Suddenly, it actually felt like summer at last.
Woke up to beautiful sunny weather and blue skies.
The ladies of the house used the opportunity to go shopping, I decided to go walking in the hills.
Used the excellent app from ut.no to find somewhere new to go within easy reach of home.
Had a fantastic yomp up Øyberget in Melhus without meeting another soul – gotta love Norway!

The Beer:
Name: Røde Toner (Red Tones)
Producer: Ego Brygghus of Fredrikstad, Norway
Alcohol content: 4.7 %
Bottle size: 500 ml
Purchased from: Gulating Beer Store, Trondheim, Norway

#grownupbeerdiary

A lovely amber ale from Ego, who also have failed to disappoint so far and I have no expectations that they will do so. High quality beer from an excellent brewery!

Diary entry:
And a lot more effective today, thankfully.
Most of the details for Okinawa and Spain are now sorted out.
Ploughed on through my translation job but sensibly turned down a new one.
Need the time to concentrate on blog work.
Went for a walk and took a trip to the countryside – Klæbu – in the evening.

The Beer:
Name: Haustgule Lauv
Producer: Ægir Bryggeri of Flåm, Norway
Alcohol content: 4.7 %
Bottle size: 500 ml
Purchased from: Gulating Beer Store, Trondheim, Norway

#grownupbeerdiary

Ægir is definitely one of Norway’s most consistently high-quality breweries so I always have high expectations when trying one of their beers for the first time. Again, this was great – really rich and smoky flavour. Would be superb with spicy food…
