From The Economist Espresso: Sea summit: South-East Asia’s boat people

http://econ.st/1EAsi4D
Officials from more than a dozen countries meet in Bangkok today to discuss South-East Asia’s migrant crisis. Just made my 60th loan on +Kiva.
A portion of the loan helped a member to purchase sugar, beans, cooking oil, peanuts, beer, refreshments, soap, and wine to stock her business.

From The Economist Espresso: Trouble in Shangri-La: Asia-Pacific tension

http://econ.st/1EAsP6A
An annual powwow in Singapore for the Asia-Pacific security establishment, the Shangri-La Dialogue used to be interesting mainly for what went on behind closed doors. Last year however, public sparks flew between China and both America and Japan. This weekend’s dialogue may be fierier yet, as Ashton Carter, America’s defence secretary, reprimands China for its recent provocations. America’s Asian allies have been alarmed by China’s frenetic land-...

From The Economist Espresso: Geeks’ red carpet: Google hosts developers

http://econ.st/1BptjfT
Hollywood has film premières; Silicon Valley has developer conferences. Today Google I/O, the search giant’s annual event, opens in San Francisco. Each year thousands of developers and journalists flock to the two-day show, which drums up enthusiasm for the firm’s line-up of new offerings. The fanfare includes an address from a Google executive, delivered at feature-film length. Among the products Google is expected to show off this year is a pho...

The food is awesome. Just a note though … if you're familiar with Indian food, make sure your server knows, so s/he steer you clear from the options geared towards the uninitiated. You don't want to make the mistake of ordering the sweet-sour chicken curry (that has no curry taste).
