Neat to get a shout out from Engadget.
Square can make accepting credit cards easy for small businesses. Things get less simple, however, when it comes time to do the books for those

G+ you confuse me. I don't need 3 G+ pages for my business +The Secret Chocolatier . Makes my head hurt.

I've queued feedback but would much rather have someone reach out. Doubt I'll ever get a response this way.

I'm not a fatalist, but I do find myself heavily pragmatic the older I get--and it's probably part of getting older. Wisdom is hard earned and applying it doesn't get any easier. After a great evening of thought provoking discussion I decided to pen (and pin) some thoughts for me to continue to reflect on as I get older.

As I sit down to do my usual monthly taxes (as a business) and get to deal with a crappy local and state website for my filing I have to wonder--

Wouldn't it be nice if they just gave API's for getting the data in? Then providers could create solutions that meet the businesses needs. Over the past 6 years I've seen only the slightest of changes to either platform and one change made it 2x hard to get what is relatively simple datasets in. I've emailed them a number of times to leave the 90's but they never respond.

As a business, make it easier for me to keep doing what I need to do, which is more business, which in turn makes you, the government, more money. The longer and harder you make it on me to do my business the more we all lose out.

Introduction
Andy Ciordia is a driven individual. Some say madly driven as he rarely slows down.  An off-day for Andy is skydiving from 13,500ft above Earth to act as he calls it, 'A Human Lawn Dart'.  Jokingly of course.

A man of many roles, Andy has played designer to early web designs with the now expired Going Virtual, a lead systems engineer and eventually taking over the Director of IS at the Planned Giving Design Center.

Leaving the PGDC in 2007 to start Nuance Labs he attempted to create with business partner Jeff Hoffman an advanced take on a GTD (Getting Things Done) application.  Learning many hard lessons of a startup the project has been suspended until an effort in recapitalization can occur.

Currently Andy can be found working as a freelance consultant (Nuance Labs Consulting) helping small businesses find their identities with improved branding, photography, and the implementation of CMS frameworks to allow for growth online.

He also works with his family closely doing business development for The Secret Chocolatier.  An artisanal chocolate producer in Charlotte, NC working from the grass roots up.  It's been a challenging environment bringing new products to market on shoe string budgets. With a great product though it's been a fun and tasty work load.

Andy also gives a lot back to the community and has been the director of technology with his local Slow Food chapter for the past 4 years and helps run a burgeoning photography group, Charlotte Photography Meetup Group.

With an interesting balance of technology, design, and communication, Andy is sure to continue staying busy in many endeavors for a good time to come.

James has worked from the ground up to bring stellar coffee service to Charlotte. He and his crew know the bean, make many of their own additional ingredients on site (fresh caramel, pumpkin spice, etc.) Host many a espresso nerd for regional TNTs. Good things!

Had friendly interactions each time I enter. If you know the chain then you know this place. Good location, busy during lunch. Don't forget there is a deck you can park in too.

A tiny retail footprint hides one of Charlottes top coffee shops. House made baked goods and Jimmy knows how to do espresso right. You won't be disappointed.

Family run, great location. Everything is made in-house very early in the morning. Soft bagels, chunky chicken salad, all the fixings.

My family has been a member of the McAndrews, State Farm, group for over 40 years starting with my mother and now my family. You'll find them kind, attentive, and very responsive to your needs. They really treat you as one of their extended family and that means a lot, especially when you've got a rare issue to be handled.
