Allo to get an update It's not going to be cross device support, it won't be getting SMS support or anything other really useful. Instead you'll get sticker.packs that you make from selfies and Chrome Custom Tabs...... actually that's quite useful.

There are some other extras but they just aren't worth the energy. Utterly pointless and Google are doing a fine job of killing what could be a great messaging app.

I guess there must be something in the works, backing up your conversations would be good. The messaging strategy for Android has always been all over the place and updates like this don't go anyway to fixing it, it's so fragmented that's beyond fixing.

Introducing Google Allo, a smart messaging app that helps you say more and ...

As long as they keep SMS out of it, it will be fine.

App deal of the week It's that time of the week again where you can pick up an overpriced app for next to nothing. Not entirely fair I guess as sometimes you can get some top apps but always after you've paid the full whack.

This week you can grab Unified Remote to take control of your desktop or battle King Arthur and the evil Morgana to free the world from some hideously looking creatures as Sir Lancalot in Wild Blood.

Wild Blood is available here - https://goo.gl/3Zj4OT

Unified Remote can be picked up here - https://goo.gl/SHJMMe

Android 7.0 for the HTC A9 The unlocked HTC iPhone A9 will be getting Android Nougat as from this evening. As Android Police point out it's way over their 'within 15 days' of a Nexus update. Very ambitious when pen was put to paper and quite rightly folk were skptical. It's actually been 146 days or 20.857 weeks, 4.8 months or a hell of a long time.

Still when it finally arrives you'll get multi-window and all the other benefits of Android Nougat. Next up is the HTC 10. I was considering buying one of those. The price was simply ridiculous.....but then I bought a Pixel XL.

Did you see the HTC Ultra announcement? What's happened to them?

50% off any Google Play Album Buy a Google Play Gift Card of any value (£10, £20 or £50) at Sainsbury's and as a thank you Google will slash the cost by half an album of your choice from.Google Play.

Sadly you'll have to take a trip to your local Sainsbury's for this one as it's an in-store offer only and ends on January 31.

HTC U Ultra and U Play That looks suspiciously like a Samsung handset to me, have Samsung bought HTC? What a pity their new handsets are more of a clone than something truly HTC and unique.

The second screen looks as though it'll be either really useful or simply not. HTC are banking on AI being the reason for it being there so that now makes the U Ultra a sort of Samsung and LG clone.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of HTC and was pleased when they were outed as the new Nexus Google partner for the Pixel XL and Pixel devices but I was hoping for something uniquely HTC and don't think this is really going to help their fairly dire situation.

Spec wise you get you get a 5.7-inch QHD display with Gorilla Glass 5, quad-core ,Snapdragon 821 processor, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, a rear 12MP UltraPixel 2, camera and to the front a 16MP, BSI UltraPixel mode, 1080p video camera. The 3,000 mAh battery may well be of concern to some no doubt.

All in all pretty disappointing from HTC and the U Play.....think of the U Ultra as the HTC One and the U Play as the HTC One Mini. A cheaper device that still won't sell many units.

If this is what HTC have spent all this time coming up with they won't be around for much longer. What a pity.

You can find out more on the HTC website - http://www.htc.com/uk/go/launch/

Pixel XL selling like hot cakes Seems most are waiting for them to be baked though as Verizon is struggling to keep up with demand and whilst a good thing for Google at the same time I'm sure those waiting to get their hands on one are a little disappointed with the wait.

A great many people were skptical about the Pixel launch with it being priced so high and the drop of the Nexus brand. Things couldn't be going better so says Morgan Stanley with their expectations to sell 5-6 million this year. Granted that isn't as much as Apple and Samsung but for the launch of their own branded device the market seems happy.

I have been told by a pal that works for a UK retailer that he's sold a fair few, can't put a number against it but says they have been very well received.

There has been quite a huge advertising campaign for the Google Pixel, both by carriers and the Mountain View giant itself. And, as it turns out, the massive spending seems to have worked: a report…

Rovio base new studio in London All these tech firms setting up HQs and expanding their operations in the UK need to be careful or they might give our creative industry the thumbs up.

"Our business is profitably growing and London is the most logical place for us to found a new studio that will complement our overall global mix of internal and external developers. London is also a fantastically diverse talent magnet.” says Antti Viitanen, SVP Studios.

They'll join Adobe, Google, Apple and Facebook among others who are moving their HQs or increasing their operations to serve customers worldwide.

The new London based studio will compliment their other in-house studios in Finland, Stockholm along with their other network of developers. London will see a team of 20 concentrate on massively multiplayer online  or MMOs for short.

The buzz words here will be creative, inclusive and delightful with endless amounts of free fruit and tea no doubt and a copy of The Guardian to get all the fake news you can handle.

Haven't played Angry Birds for ages.

App update - Google Maps Set a destination in Google Maps and you'll be able to book a carriage with Uber, monitor its location and even give the driver a call and all without having the Uber app on your phone.

The video I've added below shows it in action. It would be great to see other taxi service get involved with this, here in Bournemouth I can book a taxi with Gett but I need the Gett app installed on my device to use it.

Another great addition to what is already a great service.

App update - Pocketcasts There is no better app for podcasts than Pocketcasts. Just ask the team over at Shifty Jelly as I'm sure they'll agree.

In the latest update and the first of 2017 comes a few fixes such as the Up Next list and dragging filters around. A new feature also hits with this update and seems that this is the result of one person who kept emailing in requesting in to have the custom sleep timer being remembered.

Welcome to 2017! The year of...well...it's a bit early to tell, isn't it? This new build comes to you with fixes for things like the Up Next list and dragging filters around as well as some new tiny (but welcome) features like the custom sleep timer time being remembered. You're welcome that one person who keeps emailing us about that. No really. You are. Please stop ;)

One of my favorites podcasts at the moment is beautiful anonymous. You'll find it here -http://pca.st/beaut .

Happy podcasting.

Introduction
There aren't a great deal of sites out there focusing on the UK when it comes to Android so this is my bit to fill that hole.  It won't all be about the UK. Android is used the world over so I'll also be posting about Android apps and services that aren't specifically for the UK.

If you have an app or service that you'd like me to plug for you do get in touch and the same goes if you think something you've come across will be of interest.

If you circle us, please do say hello.
