Amazon Price fixing to make the general public pay more.

I recall working in retail back in the year 2005 and could see what the internet was going to become and how this would have a detrimental effect on the way retail stores in the high street operated. Seven years on, and I now run a successful ecommerce Company, no longer in retail, selling many items through various web sites. As well as our own web sites we have found it necessary to also offer our products on the selling platform of both eBay and Amazon. Between these two they equate to approximately 40% of our sales turnover albeit with a very small profit margin as they take around 20% back in fees.

We have always prided ourselves on great customer service and keen pricing. For our own web sites we would like to offer customers the potential of an even better price than they may find on Amazon because we do not have to pay such high fees on our own sites. It would be nice to offer an extra bargain for loyal customers prepared to support the smaller on-line store.

Amazon is not prepared to let this happen.

Amazon reviews all our own web sites and checks the prices we are selling, the same products. They then contact us and threaten to remove us from selling on Amazon unless we raise our prices to be in line or higher than the price available through Amazon. This is clearly disadvantaging the general public and manipulating prices on a blackmail basis.

I fear that the Internet is becoming dominated by just a few large Company’s and selection, choice and variety will fail as the likes of Amazon will be allowed to control pricing and limit the growth potential of smaller web sites trying to make a way in ecommerce.

This is clearly price fixing at its worst and Amazon is aggressively controlling this.  It is therefore no wonder that any Google search for a product that is sold on Amazon appears at the top of every listing, only yesterday did I do a search on Google for a product and nearly all Amazon results appeared within the first page, it seems Google no longer offers much choice within shopping results.  As Amazon control the selling price so well, therefore Google’s algorithms are clearly been controlled.
I welcome the views of this community.

Greetings from Amazon,
We are writing because it has come to our attention that some of your listings may be in violation of our policy concerning price parity. Customers trust that they'll find consistently low prices and other favourable terms on Amazon. To help preserve this trust, we ask that sellers who choose to sell products on Amazon not charge customers higher prices on Amazon than they charge elsewhere. This is critical to preserve fairness for Amazon customers. For products you fulfill, this typically means that both the item price and total price you charge customers for a product on Amazon must be at least as favourable as the item price and total price you charge customers on other sales channels.

-  The "item price" of a product generally means the price of the product itself.
-  The "total price" of a product generally means the total amount payable by a customer for that product, including discounts, rebates, promotions and shipping.

It has come to our attention that some of your listings do not abide by this policy. Example listings are provided below. Please review all of your listings to ensure they abide by this policy.

For more information, please refer to Section S-4 ("Parity with your Sales Channels") of the Amazon Services Business Solutions Agreement, available in the Policies and Agreements section of seller Help.

We appreciate your cooperation and thank you for selling on Amazon.

Regards,
Seller Performance Team

p.s. We questioned approx 20 customers who shop on amazon and asked them if they were aware of the (Customers trust that they'll find consistently low prices and other favourable terms on Amazon)  Not one of the Amazon customers we questioned said they were aware of this!!!
