Back using G+ after a while away... This one from my HuffPo blog seemed like a good place to start. Now the dust is settling, what are the odds looking like for the post-Brexit government (clue: not good)

As it's "Read and ebook week" I'm taking the plunge and posting up my first ebook "Screwproof  - doing deals that won't f*ck up".  It's a funny book about using thinking tools to make better decisions, especially business decisions for freelancers, independents and entrepreneurs in the digital / creative industries.  I'd love a review if you're that way inclined :)

We already knew this, but nice to hear it officially.  Basically most brands' agencies think social media campaigns = "Like our trendy new banner ads and get a voucher or something, that's all you people want, isn't it?"

Nice to see a mention for Paignton Zoo, but bad news for this little primate...

This piece by +Nick Statt covers the takedown of +Joaquin Baldwin 's excellent fan models from FFVII - interestingly, my less excellent Space Invader themed cufflinks (not exact copies, but in that generic style) also got zapped with a takedown order.  The trouble is, getting a license to produce this stuff is very complex and expensive for an independent fan designer... so unless you push the boundaries, you might as well give up and let Mattel or whatever enjoy a monopoly on the design/production opportunities - because only the big boys are allowed to play with the big boys.

No serious designer wants to steal off other designers, but working with them should be more open and accessible, otherwise it's a 2 tier world where fans who want to create fan art/design aren't welcome... surely that's a missed opportunity for developing the brand and it's products?
Final Fantasy VII figurines designed by a fan and 3D-printed by marketplace Shapeways enthralled FFVII freaks everywhere. So much so that copyright owner Square Enix nixed the operation.

Guest blog post I wrote for +GoAnimate on the power of animation.  It's actually an evolutionary trait to make cartoons... here's a little more detail:

This exhibition is just open at the +Design Museum "The Future is here: A new industrial revolution", definitely worth a visit and as much about the social role of technology as it's place in manufacturing.  Here's my review in The Independent

My thoughts on the media hype around Maplin's 3D printer announcement  - it's not the first on the high street unless you consider the internet to be a geek consumer niche... (which it's not)
