Built one of these from a kit of parts provided by someone who knew which lorry things fell off - no case thought - just a pcb and a bag of bits - mounted it all in a cardboard box. Cost me 25 quid, an absolute fortune! Ah the good old days!

Story
Tagline
Internet retailer & marketer trying to live by Christian principles & family values
Introduction
Educated in Wigton  Cumbria (Nelson Thomlinson) where I returned to after London but now live in the East Midlands.

Unable to find work when I left school so I have spent most of my working life in London.   I started my career in Lloyds Bank, went through a series of financial management jobs before ending up at CBS Records (Sony) It was then I went self-employed and ran record shops in London until, with a new family, I decided to move back to Cumbria. An attempt to start shops here (Appleby & Penrith) proved unsuccessful, the property market crashed and I ended up signing-on as unemployed.

When offered another chance to start up business I seized the opportunity  and tried selling on local markets and specialist collectors’ fairs.  I was an early adopter of online and started using eBay in 1999. The opportunity to sell enough stock on markets & fairs dried up as the music business went through major realignment so I started to sell collectibles (CDs & records) online.

I was very heavily  involved in the ‘90s with the Wigton Business Association (& the fledgling Wigton Observer)  as a way of helping local businesses and I was the prime mover and project manager for Wigton Windows Week – an arts meet business promotional campaign that has run annually ever since

I appeared on the BBC2 TV business programme, Working Lunch promoting Wigton at the time. I also appeared talking about eBay and small business matters as well as doing features for local paper and other BBC radio stations.  In the 90s I also went back to ‘school’, where I got a CIM marketing qualification and an English A level which then took me to a degree course in English at the University of Cumbria – on hold at present!

As a business owner for many years (I even ran a mail order business at school), I have a broad knowledge of high street retail operations as well as of online selling in the world of eBay and Amazon (been trading online for over 14 years)

Whilst running this online retail, business I keep researching online business opportunities for local enterprises. I was supporting the new Wigton business group (previous Association  had gone defunct) & set up a social media platform for them to network on Linkedin & encouraged online & email marketing as a means of survival. I’ve been there and done that myself!

Now I start  again in Leicestershire! Watch out

My childhood comprised of Hornby Trains and Toy Soldiers - life was so simple in the 60s! This exhibition took me right back there. On the day we went The Battle of Waterloo was being re-enacted & Napoleon was well on his way to winning (NOT!) The whole exhibition has been lovingly constructed by someone who understands the childhood delights of such toys. I peered into each case with such longing that my wife, in the end, had to drag me out BUT we will be back! Wish this had been in Cumbria when our boys were growing up - I could have explained my own childhood more simply Anyway I now have a grandson who has a treat in store. This is an essential port of call (appropriate way of describing Silloth!!) for any self respecting dad or granddad. Check it out. You won't be sorry!
