Growing a company is hard. Here are some thought leaders. Which is your favorite?

These takeaways were all said at The New Web's recent conference in New York City.

I can't wait to watch tonight's #RepublicanDebate to imagine what the race would be like without @realDonaldTrump!

Why focus on customer acquisition, a website and manufacturing when you don't have to?

I love the branding here. This will connect with specific customers who enjoy a good chuckle with their products, and also enjoy artisinal goods.

If you're in my class, this is the kind of question you get on tests.

Fixed ideas about a growth mindset.
As usual, everyone took a good idea and beat it with the stupid stick until they missed the point entirely.

Recently, someone asked what keeps me up at night. It’s the fear that the mindset concepts, which grew up to counter the failed self-esteem movement, will be used to perpetuate that movement. In other words, if you want to make students feel good, even if they're not learning, just praise their effort! Want to hide learning gaps from them? Just tell them, "Everyone is smart!" The growth mindset was intended to help close achievement gaps, not hide them. It is about telling the truth about a student’s current achievement and then, together, doing something about it, helping him or her become smarter.

The key here wasn't to find some other way to encourage the kids to think they're nifty. The self-esteem movement rightly failed. The growth mindset isn't a consolation prize for effort and neither was it some sort of magical power of positive thinking either.

It is a sort of vaccine against that way of thinking that shuts kids down. "I struggle at math" may be a true statement, but "I'm not good at math" is something subtly different and just enough false to be a real problem.

A growth mindset is nothing more than recognizing that with practice and focus we are changing our brains. Effort when focused on goals with regular assessments of progress is good for cutting the time off your quarter mile and for learning algebra.

My brain can and does change. I'm changing it by what I do with it everyday. The effort is intentional and purposed. Around the office we like to call this sweat-equity.
Carol Dweck, who parsed the difference between a "fixed" and a "growth" mindset, clarifies her theories of intelligence.

I'm really good at choosing drinks from a menu I've never tried before. I have a remarkable degree of success with that.

We have worked with Dr. Grey for years now, and have always been treated well. He and his staff have been compassionate with us through the death of several pets, and we'll always be thankful. Highly recommended!

I stopped in one afternoon, after lunch, and asked if they sell individual cupcakes. Sadly, they don't, but they DO serve individual cake slices. I tried a few cakes, and the tres leche cake stands out as a special favorite. It was very moist and oh-so tasty. Highly recommended!

One of my favorite places to eat in Downtown Reedley. The gourmet grilled cheese sandwich is a must-have, but a bit of a guilty pleasure. The buffalo chicken sandwich is pretty good, and the sour dough bowl with soup is good. Don't forget to save some room for Ice Cream!
