A useful toolset for resolving bottlenecks & other cruft in #JavaScript.  Especially good for when you're doing a bunch of UI work on those older/lower-end laptops, tablets & mobile devices beit mobile apps or #HTML5 games.

Happy that a service like this is now available. I worry about all my accounts, servers, projects that only I have access to. It's a bit dark to consider, but certainly useful.

Recommended Bit-rate & Codecs for Online & Offline Video

Consider: A company is supplies you with videos that are to be, both, streamed and made available to download for offline viewing on mobile devices and desktops.

Question : Assuming a high bit-rate source video of 1920 x 1080.  What encoding options would you ask them to supply them in; so you don't have to handle the conversion yourself?

My initial thoughts were H.264/MPEG-4

1920 x 1080 @ 4000 kbps
1280 x 720 @ 2500 kbps
848 x 480 @ 1600 kbps

Where the encoder used 2-Pass VBR, as the encoding is done offline & prior to delivery.

ETA : As +John Goodyear pointed out there's no one size fits all.  These are really just guidelines that I need to give to professional video producers so the videos can be used without me needing to re-encode.

+John Goodyear I wholehearted agree, there is no 'one-size-fits-all' approach.  Of course, it's dependant on the content within the videos.

However, I need to give some basic guidelines to 4/5 different suppliers.  In the hope what I receive is consistent, as it can be, across the board.  So I can use the videos without the needing to spend my time encoding them.

The last time I had a similar exercise the range of quality, even from the same supplier, was horrendous and took me the best part of a week to clean them up sufficiently & make them consistent enough to be usable.

I can't afford, nor do I wish, to repeat the exercise; I want to place the onus on the suppliers.  If it were my choice I'd use another supplier, but I can't they're my customer's suppliers.

What would you request from different sources if you wanted to achieve the same?

Spotify is now on the Chrome Web Store. Huge news for everyone on ChromeOS or would just rather manage it in the browser.

I'd recommend my Aurgasm playlist, when you're up and running: open.spotify.com/user/paul_irish/playlist/44rIgckfEHjg1j5DzCDDUx
