Enjoyable musings on composition.
Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world. Albert Einstein Introduction Having a solid knowledge of composition is one of the most important aspects of creating strong photographs.  In the context of my series of essays on personal vision and style, composition is one of the most important ways of [Read More]

Can't have enough astrophotography tutorials. I have an idea in mind for an astronomy photo involving watches, so I need all the help I can get.
Astrophotography is a hobby rapidly gaining popularity thanks to the fast advancing CMOS sensor technology. Over a decade ago, the light recording material employed in astrophotography was primarily chemical emulsion. Its low sensitivity makes it very hard to record the weak signal from deep space. In addition, the lack of real-time feedback is a huge …

Stewart, thought you might like to check this out.
Listen to the soundtrack for Ryan Gosling's Lost River from Johnny Jewel and featuring Saoirse Ronan, Eva Mendes, Ben Mendelsohn and Matt Smith.

I'm glad someone figured this out: How to attach any watch strap to an Apple Watch. Still waiting on a modified NATO-style band, hehe.

These $50 Seiko SNKs are fun and well-made automatics. Jenny is now the proud owner of the navy-blue dialed one, so I decided to get this vintage-ish cream-colored dial version and pair it with a flieger-style strap.

Really impressed with this little watch, the Seiko 5 SNK807. First order of business, remove the canvas strap and replace it with a "James Bond"-style NATO strap. Excellent build quality with surprising heft for a watch this small. I'm probably going to spring for the cream-colored dial version also. At $50 a pop, this is a really great fully-mechanical tool/beater/field watch.

I couldn't agree more. The Seiko 5 SNK is a watch I've been meaning to buy. You can get it in black, blue, green and beige faces, at around $60 on Amazon. For a full mechanical, automatic, it doesn't get any cheaper, and they are decent quality too. The straps are lame, but part of the fun is replacing the strap and customizing it.

I have no complaints about Seiko. The Seiko Monster I have is very inexpensive, yet it's quieter than my Tissot, and it's built better than the $2400 TAG Heuer Aquaracer -- a dive watch which is comically overpriced.

I also liked the Squale dive watch (I've had my eye on that one for a while, but it's overpriced), and the dial of the Junghans looked downright hypnotic. That one wasn't on my radar at all.

Being a "coffeetographer" is pretty much my dream job!
A "coffeetographer" leaves the cafes of New York for the farms of Colombia to trace coffee culture from bean to cup.
