I just recently read an article on the same thing, but with a Microsoft stack: C#, Web API, and Azure. Lovely to be able to see this and compare (of course Go is my preferred language ;))

If you're not using goimports, you probably should be:

https://github.com/bradfitz/goimports/

... it makes writing Go even faster and more fun.

+David Crawshaw, +Sameer Ajmani and I recently gave it a fresh coat of love and it's pretty much perfect now.  (which is where you guys all start filing bugs....)

+Igor Yurchenko not sure how this is against the philosophy. This tool makes it a lot less likely that you'll leave unused code/variables around.

Awesome, thank you! Do you know if there is a slide repository for the rest of the slides https://fosdem.org/2014/schedule/track/go/ or should I contact the other of the authors?

OK so i've got the kit, I've played with it and now I want to expand it.

When are the individual modules going to be available?

US Americans, please tell your government to be more transparent. :-)

We just updated our Transparency Report, showing how many requests Google gets for information about its users. But we're not allowed to give the full story because the U.S. government says that requests under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) must be kept secret. We can tell you this: Requests have more than doubled around the world since 2009, and more than tripled in the U.S.: http://g.co/u5sp

Share this if you believe you have a right to know what our governments are up to.

While searching my archives for a very very old document, I found a very old document, a "Research Statement" from 2002, written as part of the hellish requirements of searching for a job.

Here's an excerpt that seems as relevant today as it was a decade ago when I wrote it:

"Through my research since the early 1980s I have become a firm believer in the power of concurrent programming for the writing of system software. Modern systems run in a world that includes networks, multiple input and output streams, graphical devices, and user interfaces, and that world is well modeled as a set of independently executing, communicating processes. The best way to connect to that model is by expressing the control software the same way. Hoare's CSP was a good starting point for this way of thinking; I have worked (along with many others) at applying Hoare's ideas to systems programming. But too much of the public discussion of concurrency focuses on the precise definition of processes and threads, when the critical aspect is how those processes communicate. Get the communication model right and problems of synchronization, deadlock, and even overall design become not only tractable but easy. Approached properly, concurrency is not a problem to be overcome, but rather a clean and productive approach to the writing of software."

Pretty average place. Poor sound insulation between rooms. I actually had to move hotel because the people in the room were up late making noise, and the management couldn't do anything about it. The staff were very friendly and helpful otherwise, though.

Great hotel in a convenient location. The rooms are clean and functional with minimalist decor. Be wary of rooms on the third (and maybe fourth?) floors, as there is a night club on the second floor and it doesn't shut down until 2am. The clubs in the hotel are kinda fun, but not really my crowd. Although the rooftop bar is a nice place to have a drink before sunset.

We visited this place on the strength of the reviews here, and were disappointed. The food was average, at best. Everything else was fine. The standard in Rome is so high, and these reviews massively overstate this restaurant's value.
