A phantastic. All waiting and for lack of seating standing passengers have just been told to remain seated to await boarding.

Hmm seem that I only do this when I am somewhat annoyed by airport procedures.

This time I am in Amsterdam going back to Vancouver. So I do somewhat understand that transatlantic security wants you to go through another security checkpoint directly at the gate, Schiphol's solution to this is a bit annoying. One lineup at the security. Business class physically has to kick someone out of the main line, which causes tons of fun and friendly conversations. The following waiting area then is way to small for the number of people boarding.

OK so far this only has been somewhat annoying.

What gets me is that the head security line then shouts at the line in barely understandable English, and with extremely visible contempt to not to be so stupid as to leave their liquid bottles in their carry on luggage.

Sure he has to say this hundreds of times a day and we should know by now but
- he is paid buy the passenger to do so
- Schiphol itself and a lot of other airports do not consequently enforce this at a secondary security check
- 10% of your customers make a mistake and forgot.
- Deescalation of a stressful situation looks a little different.

So I am fine with the announcements, but adding the basic please and thank you to a a request and removing the sneer from your face foes go a long way to calm things down.

Hey perhaps even post a sign or so.

Quite unexpectedly Jo and I had six hours to spend in Sydney. We took the train to the city (12 AUD for two, return) stepped of at St. James and started sightseeing.

First stop: Barracks museum. Nice museum with a lot of information on Sydney's historic past.

Second stop: The Rocks museum. Little, free but interesting museum on the development of the Rocks. From the aboriginal origins to today. Solved the case of a suspected illegal still some two hundred years later. Archaeologists found the still in an old well.

Third Stop: National Opal Collection. Half museum, half shop. Includes the skeleton of a half opalized dinosaur. Shop sadly out of my price range.

Random ice cream and tourist stops.

Pictures to follow as soon as I get them of my camera.

Just returned to the hotel Air Canada booked us in. Luckily we were at the front of the assignment queue. Took about 15-20 minutes per passenger. The last o es are probably still at the Airport.

We had a nice day in Sydney instead, visiting the Barracks museum, had a nice stroll around the Rocks and and did some random tourist activities ( missed the free lunch by Air Canada though).

Tip for Sydney: The return ticket from the airport hotel via public transit for two people was 12 Australian Dollars, if you use the station before or after the airport. Using the airport station increases the ticket price to about 20 dollars per person each way ( special access fee)
I don't believe this. The flight back from our Australia Vacation with Air Canada will be eleven hours late as well. Accumulated 24 hours delay on two flights. Check in crew finally arrived ( late of course ) to figure out what to do with us. Last time we had to sleep in the airport check in area. Fun ... . I am masochistically curious what's in store for us next.

I guess providing some information would be to much to ask for.

I'm steaming mad! My worst Air Canada experience ever. My wife and I started for our Australia trip, 11.45pm flight. Smooth sailing through security, 15 minutes late boarding, no big deal. Departure time passed and we are still sitting at the gate. Some time later we were informed that we are waiting for the fourth pilot. Wait an hour for the pilot. Pilot arrives but we are still at the gate for another hour.

Finally we are told that there is a problem with one of the fuel pumps, but they will fix hit. Another our in the plane passes. Pilot informs us that the flight is cancelled and if we were so kind to leave the plane.

All the time no help, no information and not the slightest interest shown by the cabin crew. It's half past two in the morning by now and we are in the queue to get an hotel voucher. Don't know for sure as no Air Canada staff provides any information.

As the queue does not move for an hour, we decide to sleep at one of the airport benches, instead of taking a taxi to the hotel, pay for a room and turn immediately around to go back to the airport.

Air Canada's one grouchy concession: A ten dollar food voucher.

Now we are sitting at the same gate, looking at the same plane with most likely the same crew. Lets see if we make it out of the gate this time.
